STEWARDSHIP--WHAT CHUCKIE WAS ABOUT

I have been fortunate to have known Chuck since the late 1970's when I started working for the State of Ohio Department of Taxation. Chuck approached life and his career with enthusiasm, honesty, dedication, humor, loyalty and exemplary skill. He was a superb manager who always brought out the best in his coworkers. As my supervisor and as my friend, Chuck taught me and guided me throughout my career with the Department. His kindness, humor and willingness to help others inspired all of us every day. Chuck was a key member of the most talented and dedicated management team in the Department, the staff of the District Offices, and always "stepped up" without being asked. He was fiercely loyal to his family and his coworkers and selflessly worked for the benefit of all. I shall always remember his smile and his kindness, as well as his wry sense of humor. He made all of us better people through his actions. At work, his legacy lives on through those that he trained, befriended and guided and in life, his legacy lives on through his family and friends. I am a better man for having known Chuck. My prayers are with his wife and family and I hope that their sadness is tempered by understanding the great positive impact that Chuck had on all of us that knew and loved him. I shall miss him greatly and remember him fondly. This world is a little darker without the light Chuck provided.

I am so sorry to hear about your great loss. You all are in my prayers. I remember seeing Mr. Swatrz at each and every Watterson Football game on the sidelines...even back in gradeschool when Rocky & Jack would be running around along side. He was a wonderful man who did so much for his children and will be greatly missed.

We send our sympathies to Jack and his family in this time of great loss. We will be forever grateful to your dad for his years of committment to the 2000-2004 Ohio Dominican basketball team. Not only was he present to video every game, whether home or away, but he provided such encouragement to all the players, especially our son, Jeremy. You are truly blest to have such a great dad and to share his terrific smile and support with the rest of the team. You are in our prayers.

To the Swartz Family,

My thoughts on what Charles W. Swartz III exemplified as he walked/talked his way through life toward Heaven’s Gate:

Every achievement was once impossible. If there were no problems, there would be no opportunities. It does not cost anything to be nice. If you smile at people, they will almost always smile back. The important thing is not what others think about you but what you think of yourself. In every face-to-face encounter, regardless of how brief, you leave a part of yourself behind. Keep your promises no matter what. Education, experience, and memories are three things that no one can take away from you. The simple things in life are often the most satisfying. Children and pets are the best teachers of creativity, persistence and unconditional love. You should not expect life’s best if you are not giving it your very best. You should never underestimate the potential and power of the human spirit. Successful living must be practiced daily…Anonymous

As each new day begins, I reflect and remember the tallest self-competitive man I have ever known….with a great smile and wonderful sense of humor (dry wit). “CHUCKIE” loved to…fish at the hottest hour of the day, play (“to win’) basketball/golf, wear red (99% of the time) and live life to the fullest. Even now, he is just a heartbeat away. Wow! What a legacy. What a gift to the world and anyone who received even one second of his time. I will always honor his presence in my life.

My deepest sympathy to Peg & the whole family, for their tremendious loss. They were truly the love of Chuck's life. Chuck was the brightest soul I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He was an inspiration to everyone lucky enough to cross his path. I worked with Chuck almost 3 years and that time was pure magic. I have never felt that kind of magical exchange before, nor do I think that I ever will again.Chuck was like the guy next door who was a best friend to all & you could talk about anything without any worries, You always walked away with a smile and a chuckle.... that was Chuck, I will miss him forever.
