Dale Defourny Obituary

Defourny, Dale
1954 - 2017
Dale Defourny, born June 13, 1954, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at home with his wife and daughter at his side. True to his nature, he took on the challenge of cancer with persistence and the good-natured sense of humor for which he was well-known. Since his diagnosis the family spent every possible moment enjoying excursions to view Christmas lights, visit the beach, burn campfires at Buckeye Lake, play pinball, and watch favorite old MGM films. His appreciation for music was contagious and he could often be found sitting in his favorite chair relaxing to jazz at high volume. He was devoted to his wife, Lisa, for the past 42 years, laughing, teasing, and taking care of one another. With equal care and love, he raised his daughter, Julie. He graduated Walnut Ridge High School in 1972 and was recently retired after 40 years of service from JCPenney logistics. Dale enjoyed golf, bowling, softball, and basketball. He traveled throughout Europe and here at home. He was preceded in death by his father, Desire, and his brother, Rick, and mother-in-law, Sandy Grubb. He is survived by wife, Lisa, daughter, Julie, mother, Mary, and brother, Bruce. He relished the joys of a large extended family and was known to be a unifying factor among them. He had a special talent for making friends no matter where he went and kept them close to his heart. He made an indelible mark on all who knew him and we will think of him at every beautiful sunset. The gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 2-4pm with a memorial service to directly follow at 4pm at Schoedinger East, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Rogosin Institute. We would like to extend special thanks to JCPenney, Bob Evans Farms, and the Zangmeister Cancer Center. We are so sorry to hear of Dale's passing and you have our deepest sympathy. May God watch over you all at this sad time and may you always cherish your wonderful memories.
We, the Horgers, lived next door to him and his family while growing up on Dawson and still remember him as that cute little blonde!
My mother, Virginia (98 yrd old) still likes to tell the story of one time he was in our house playing with my brothers toy cars and his Mom, Mary was looking and calling for him. With the windows open, he could hear her calling but ignored her so my brother leaned to the window and shouted to Mary..."He's over here" and Dale only about 4 yrs old said to my brother, " What you said Harry!" He was so mad at my brother for ratting on him so he had to leave the toys and go home! :)
All the DeFournys are remembered fondly!
Again, I'm so sorry to all the family and our thoughts and prayers are with you all!
Sincerely, Donna (Horger)Plummer and
Mom (Virginia Horger)
Harry Horger (Brother).

Lisa and Julie,

I am so blessed to have know Dale the last 20 years or so. I met Dale for the first time in 1998 at the Schott. I instantly knew I choose my seats well for Ohio State basketball. Over the next 19 or so seasons Dale and I talked, laughed, screamed for joy, and cried in agony watching Ohio State basketball. This upcoming basketball season is going to be hard without Dale sitting next to me. When I think of Dale right now I am sad; however, with the passing of time I am sure his memory will bring a smile to my face.
