Darlene McBride Obituary

McBRIDE (SMITH) Darlene McBride (Smith), born on September 4, 1935 left this world a better place, surrounded by loving family and friends, on December 18, 2010. Darlene was a woman who lived a very full life and loved a good laugh. She loved to be at the beach with her family and friends, nose buried in a book. Darlene lived life to the fullest and loved to travel. She was a mother to many, with the biggest heart ever and loved to help those in need. Her pool and her home became a gathering place for everyone who had ever met her. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Anna Lou Smith, brother Danny and son Chris. She is survived by a family who adored and cherished her: her loving husband, Chuck; her daughters, Kim (Chris), Julie (Todd) Watts, Lisa (Mike); and grandchildren, Cory and Lindsey Watts and Trevor Simmons. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 21 from 6-8 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN NORTHWEST FUNERAL HOME, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus, OH. In lieu of flowers, Darlene would prefer donations be made to Operation Buckeye, www.operationbuckeye.org, a charity she and Chuck supported.

I met Darlene when she volunteered at Second Impressions a few years ago. I felt like I had known her forever. She was so easy to be around and made everyone feel comfortable. I will always remember the twinkle in her eye and her wonderful giving spirit. I know she is watching over all of her loved ones from above.

Chuck Julie Todd Kim Chris and family, we loved Darlene and will be thinking of you all. Last year when Pat's mother passed I remember Darlene saying to me, it's really going to okay ... her courage meant so much. Now I know she understood because she was a mom thinking of her own family. You too will be okay. You have had a Matriarch who taught you well about life. You will have the legacy of her love. We will pray and think of you often...

Dear Chuck, Kim, Chris, Julie and all Darlene's loving family and friends -- I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm remembering Darlene fondly and thinking of her smile, the twinkle in her eye, and her light-hearted good nature as she sent Chuck off to some new adventure as she settled into a comfy chair with a good book. She left us too soon, but she loved and was loved fully, and you really can't ask for much more than that. I hope you are comforted by your memories and the wonderful legacy she has left behind in you. -- Love and hugs, Amy
