David Edward Bourns, age 73, of Clare, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 14, 2013. David was born the son of Edward and Doris (Hoffman) Bourns on March 8, 1940, in South Lyon. David was a graduate of South Lyon High School class of 1958. While in school, David was active in FFA, played football, basketball and baseball. He was united in marriage to Carol Lynn Phillips on September 3, 1960. David had been a dairy farmer for nearly his entire life. He moved to Lake, Michigan from South Lyon in 1974. Besides farming, Dave worked at Kubota Central in Clare for 20 years and Ministered at the Geneva Hope United Methodist Church for several years. David was very civic minded, serving as President of the Isabella County Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader, as well as serving as a member on the Coldwater Twp. Board for many years. David lived at the Clare Castle, where he was a regular card player, and a board member of the Clare County Senior Center.
David is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn; daughter, Pamela (Peter) Stirn of Midland and their children, Erica (Ryan) Andrews, Zachary, and Zoe; son, David Edward (Amy) Bourns, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and their children, Alexander and Taylor; daughter, Hope (Jai) Iserhoth of Shepherd and their children, Landon, Mason and Carson; his siblings, Nancy Granger and Richard (Carole) Bourns, both of Rochester, NY. David was predeceased by his parents; and his brother-in-law, Don Granger.
Memorial Visitation will take place Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Coleman with Pastor Caroline Hart officiating.
