Dave and I worked together on two more books. He illustrated Seeing Stars a children book and we were writing one on flowers. I enjoyed working with him.

His friends at the Stratford Ecological Center will miss him dearly - he was a very sweet man! We just found out the news looking for him and the Bexley String Band to perform for us again for our annual Harvest Festival. We will always remember his harmonica playing! Our condolences to his family and friends.

I met Dave years ago at the Bexley music jams at the Radio Cafe. I will miss his music, his kind heart, welcoming smile, and quiet humor. Always enjoyed playing music with him at the farmers market, the pancake breakfasts, firehouse, or wherever. I will think of him often.

Sometimes we take the people closest to us for granted, especially when we are growing up, I am so glad I got to know Uncle Dave as a friend these last years! What a cool guy I had for an uncle! "I'll miss you like crazy."
Love, Susan

We are so sorry for your loss. I remember your parents as being so nice, and I know my mother thought much of them and also of you Eric. Until I read these messages I had forgotten the many cartoons I saw in the local newspaper! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

A shock to read of Dave's passing. I have known Dave since high school where we both we in the marching band. We both served on the North High Class of 1945 reunion committee. Friendship continued at our regular lunch table for the Old North High Club. What a talented man, a true Renaissance man who had a good run at life.

On behalf of the Coupland family, I would like to express our sadness in hearing of Dave's passing. The entire Weltner family was such a joy to know. I enjoyed singing with Dave in church choir and having Betsy in my pre-school & kindergarten Sunday School class and even Eric during vacation bible school at Mifflin Pres. Sorry I haven't kept up with them in recent years, but my memories are always fun and happy ones. May God bless your family and bring memories of musical days. Sincerely, Elaine (Coupland) Allen

Dave was one of the kindest people that I ever met. I enjoyed playing cribbage with him because you never knew what he was going to say. I'll miss you "Ponder" and will always think of you when I see a woolly worm!

David was an active member at the Upper Arlington Senior Center. He always showed up with a smile and a hug. He drew cartoons for our monthly newsletter which we all thoroughly enjoyed. He will be missed greatly.

My husband and I met Dave and Barbara on a trip to Ireland, later he and I collaborated on children's books. He illustrated stories I wrote. He and Barbara discussed their lives during WWII years when I wrote WHILE a book about those years. Dave and I met again last year at Westminster Thurber and he read the book. We spoke on the phone this winter and ordered more of the books we wrote. He also helped me arrange a presentation of the book there later this month. I will miss him and his smile, his music, his artwork and willingness to help others.

Although we met only a few years ago, we shared serious and funny anecdotes with David MOST JOYOUSLY almost every weekday morning at our local Panera cafe. Sometimes we were serious but that never lasted long as we would vie to be the first one to burst the seriousness balloon and have a big laugh. How I did enjoy making David laugh. His quirkiness was just what I needed and vice versa, I think.
Yes, I agree with all who say that David lived life to the fullest. He is my model for that, and I hope I can do half as much as my friend David WEltner did. (So glad his friends produced a CD of his music,,,a beautiful polishing off of his bucket list, if he had one.} So long, David, you will be missed daily.

David was a very special friend for many years. He was full of "bad" jokes bringing laughter to everyone. He lived a full life loving and participating in every minute of it. He will be missed.

Dave's beautiful and extensive obituary left out one important thing: it also should have read, "Loyal friend", as indeed he was to us. We will miss him. Our love and sympathy to Eric and to all of his family.

I will always have very happy memories of Dave, and the joy he found in the love of his family, church, art, and music. The first image of him that comes to mind is him with his horn, making music just for fun with the Mifflinaires. I hope that good memories will help all that miss him in the days ahead.
