Eddie Holton Obituary

HOLTON Eddie M. Holton, age 70, slipped peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Friday, April 20, 2012, in Columbus, OH. Born in Huntington, WV, to the late James and Eloise (Ellis) Holton on November 29, 1941, Eddie captured everyone's hearts from the time he first started smiling. That same smile endeared him to each person he met, even through the end of his battle with cancer. A fierce patriot and talented aviator, Eddie graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, the Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. His passion for things that "go fast" took him on a journey from racing with NASCAR to working for Porsche to teaching aeronautics at Ohio State University. Growing up around the family business, Holton TV, gave Eddie a keen mind for mechanics, which he later applied as a systems safety engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA contractor. He greatly enjoyed American history and was a proud member of the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles group dedicated to the legacy of Lewis and Clark. He is survived by daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Davis and Mary (George) Simons; seven grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Dan) Vanthoff; and the Ellis family. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff of First Community Village and the InCare Hospice Team for their wonderful care and support. Memorial contributions in memory of Eddie may be made to: InCare Central Ohio (Hospice), 2233 North Bank Drive, Columbus, OH 43220. Services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville.

As part of the DESC family I don't know that I can add much to what has been already said about Eddie. You didn't have to know him long to know that he loved his family, his country and its history. You must be so proud of him. Any one of us would have been very proud to acheive just one of his many accomplishments. I'm sure he's smiling down at us with that twinkle in his eye. Our deepest sympathies.

I met Eddie through DESC. He was quite a guy and seemed to have been everywhere and done everything. After reading his obit, I think he had. My most vivid memories of him are working a firearm station at Olive Branch in '09 and sharing a laugh when he beat me in a "bidding war" for a Gary Lucy print at the DESC Christmas party in '10. My deepest sympanthy to his family. Fast Eddie will be missed by many.

Eddie became a very wonderful friend to us. Meeting Eddie as a member of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery we shared his interest and his great interest and love for his country. He was very dedicated to his country and his family. We will miss Eddie very much and his visits with us. We love you Eddie and will miss you. Ed and Barbara Eller.

To the Holton Family, As a member of DESC I was privileged to meet and get to know "Fast Eddy". Your Father was a delight for me and one of a kind. He was never afraid to share his opinion & in doing so you could see he was a passionate patriot and had a great love for his country. He was always eager to help around camp to do whatever was needed for "the Good of the Corps". We all loved your father as we shared our love of our Am. Heritage. Know he is resting easy in the Lord's hands and one day all will be reunited on that glorious day. Our deepest condolences from all of us at DESC, (his brothers & sisters) Kindest regards, Jan P. Donelson (Capt. Lewis)
