I was shocked and saddened to hear of Liz's passing. My sympathy to Bob and her family and friends. She was a invaluable member of the scientific and educational community and we appreciated her support for women in science.

Liz Gross was the first tenure-track hire to become a FULL professor in the history of the Ohio State University's College of Biological Sciences! For a number of years in the early 1990s, Liz enjoyed faithful participation in our Women in College of Biol. Sciences group, and was the senior member. Hearing her freely-shared war stories, always complemented by her pithy wit, and delivered in her slightly ferocious manner of speaking, was delightfully enlivening, encouraging and emboldening to us upstarts. Liz was fearless, a natural leader with a huge heart. I'll really miss her - she had no peer
