PICA Elvira Splendora Pica, born February 20, 1918 in Dennison, Ohio and went to the Lord on May 19, 2012 peacefully at Kobacker House after a long stay at Mayfair Village. Vera was best known as the owner of Geno's Pizza in North Linden for over 45 years. She was often called the "Pizza Queen of Columbus" and her recipe received rave reviews from both the Columbus Dispatch and the national pizza magazines. She was forced into retirement at age 86 due to her battle with Parkinson's Disease. However, she never complained about the disease. Her pride was keeping up the most beautiful yard on Oakland Park Avenue. Vera was known as the world's hardest working women and loved by everyone who knew her. She was a long time parishioner and neighbor of St. James The Less Catholic Church and volunteered for years at St. Francis DeSales High School bingo. Her life was devoted to her children and grandchildren, work, faith and meals with her friends and family at her large dinner table located in her basement kitchen. Her first words to anyone who came to her home was always "Are you hungry?" She was a remarkable women who touched the lives of both young and old. She is preceded in death by her parents Filomena and Giovanni Taffa, her sister Rose (Albert) Cautela and her beloved daughter Marina Davis. Survived by sons, Gary and Kevin (Craig) Pica; granddaughter, Marisa (David) Boldizar; grandson, Dominic Pica; great-grandchildren, Ava, Alisa and Andrew Boldizar; niece, Diane (Billy) Colasante; nephews, Richard (Donna) Cautela, Johnny Cautela; great-nephews, Todd and Rodd (Toni) Carmean, Jonathan Tantrik Cautela, Paul Garrett; great-nieces, Tara Cautela-Owings and Rosa Cautela. She had many close relatives, friends and admiriers. There were several people who considered her a "second mom", especially Raymond Eal and Rev. Fr. William A. Metzger. Growing up on Kenworth, you could not miss the aroma of GENOS Pizza. at age 57, I can still say it was the best pizza ever. Vera was a "people" person, and I enjoyed her talks on slow nights or shrill tone when angry & tired. Vera would incourage us to dance to the jute box music, while waiting for a pizza. Miss the fun of the Pica family. I found a piture a while back of an Italian street with a sign "Genos Pizzeria" I have it hanging in my dining room ,to remind me of my childhood memories. Including the rides to deliver pizzas,
God Bless You all in your loss.. but Heaven's gain.

I never knew Vera, but I know that she raised a wonderful family. I know her son Kevin, and her daughter Marina was my English teacher from grades 5-12. Marina was a caring, giving teacher, and Kevin is a caring, giving, compassionate, and warm human being. All thoughts and prayers are with the Pica family today.

The best pepperoni and mango pizza in the world!(every weekend) Geno's is such a huge part of my fondest childhood memories. Vera was always so nice. I also loved to drive by and look at the Pica house. It was the prettiest house in the neighborhood when I was little. I still love to look at it when I go to mass at St. James from time to time. My prayers go out to the Pica family.

Dear Kevin, Craig, Marisa, David, Gary, Domenic: Dear Good Friends: "Vera" as we all knew her, was an amazing classy woman, and a wonderful friend to me and my late husband "Bing," and the Currens Family. While visiting with her just 2 weeks ago at Mayfair Nursing Facility, she still looked elegant with her red blanket embracing her tiny frame and keeping her warm on a very warm evening. She asked if her hair looked OK and I said "You Look Beautiful" She was a tremendous cook and Pizza, Salad & Pasta the specialties. So many fond and loving memories of a wonderful, dedicated, hard-working, fun and loving lady and I could go on and on. Sincere Sympathy and Prayers to steadfast Kevin & Craig, Marisa & David, Gary, Domenic and all of Vera's family. She will be missed!! Our Loss and Heaven's Gain. Love, Your Friend, Ruthie and Family
