Cross Fredrick Cross. Funeral service for Chef Fredrick Cross, 39, of Hilliard, formerly of Newark, Ohio, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, with Pastor Mebane McMahon officiating. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Fredrick passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. He was born in Newark, on December 3, 1973 to the late George Gilbert and Mary Ellen (Weinheimer) Cross. He was a 1991 graduate of Newark High School and a 2008 graduate of Columbus Culinary Institute at Bradford School, Columbus, where he later served as a chef instructor. He most recently worked as kitchen manager at the Old Bag of Nails, Westerville, and previously a chef at the Columbus School for Girls, Black Olive restaurant, The Clock Tower banquet facility, and the New Albany Country Club. Fred was a board member responsible for communications and special events of the American Culinary Federation, Columbus Chapter. Fred will be remembered for his kind and giving spirit, his creative and beautifully plated dishes including "lamb lollypops" and salmon with creamy leek sauce, his ready smile, and his positive outlook throughout seven months of treatment for gastric cancer. Fredrick is survived by his wife, Stephanie Bryan, of the home; his step-children, Deanna and Spencer; his brothers and sister-in-law, George and Shelly Cross of Heath; Charles Cross and Amie Stewart of Newark; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Anne Cross and Dallas Keller of Newark; Barbara and Bud Perkins of Newark; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister Theresia Ann Cecelia Cross. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the funeral home.
