George Van Dyke Obituary

VAN DYKE George S. "Sammy" Van Dyke, age 89, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at New Albany Care Center. Born December 25, 1918, in Thornville, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University. A WWII veteran of the U.S Army Air Corps 555th. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant, decorations including the Air Medal and the Bronze Star. He retired with The Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18 as a Master Mechanic. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Florence; children, David (Barbara Parker) Van Dyke, Danny (Linda) Van Dyke and Debbie (Jim) Dominguez; grandchildren, Christopher Van Dyke, Jimmy, Sara, Michael and Catey Dominguez; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Ira and Esta Cooperrider Van Dyke, brothers Gene Van Dyke and Ira "Jack" Van Dyke, Jr. Family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, where the Funeral Service will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008. Interment to follow service at the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Thornville. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you now and forever. I have many fond memories of Mr. Van Dyke and the entire family especially when I was young and spending summer days with he and the family. I looked to him as being an additonal grandfather.
