Helen Secrest Obituary

SECREST Helen Leona Luft Secrest, age 90, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2006. She was the wife of Harry Carroll Secrest. She was born in her uncle's farm house which was located on land where Port Columbus now stands in Gahanna, Ohio, on May 27, 1916, the oldest daughter of the late Harry Otto and Muriel Chrysler Luft. A resident of Gahanna most of her life, she attended Gahanna schools and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Over the years, she found enormous pleasure in working as Manager at Rocky Fork Country Club in Gahanna. After retirement, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband of 52 years preceded her in death on August 5, 1988. Also preceding her are sisters Ethelyn Luft, Dorothy Luft Mock, Thelma Luft Hess, Doryse Jenyne Luft Jones, and a brother Harry Richard Luft. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mowery of Gahanna; sons, Gary (Charlotte) Secrest and Robert (Sheree) Secrest, all of Gahanna, celebrate the reunion of their parents. Helen's life was blessed with eight grandchildren, Scott (Robyn) Secrest of New Albany, Timothy (Angie) Secrest of Westerville, Michael (Michele) Mowery of Gahanna, Robert (Courtney) Mowery of Gahanna, Tracy (Charles) Brobst of Gahanna, Robert Luke Secrest of Pataskala, Doug Secrest of Gahanna, Katie Secrest of Gahanna; eight great-grandchildren, Audrey Secrest, Ryan Secrest, Samuel Secrest, Jake Secrest, Zachary Mowery, Hunter Mowery, Joshua Mowery and Hailee Bradford; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Kristin, Kaderly and Kimber Brobst; sisters, Gladys Luft Cudworth and Shirley Luft Turnbull; sister-in-law, Virginia Luft; brother-in-law, Charles Jones; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A Service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, with Pastor Kai Nilsen, officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Columbus. The family welcomes memorial contributions to Hospice of Mt.
