Homer Monfort Obituary

MONFORT Homer R. Monfort, DVM., age 81, of Dublin, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a hard fought battle with diabetes and myasthenia gravis. He was born March 6, 1926, in Spencerville, Ohio, son of the late Howard and Mabel Monfort and also preceded in death by his two brothers Donald and Harold Monfort, all of Spencerville, Ohio. A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married his high school sweetheart, Delphene Kolter. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Monfort was one of the pioneers who fought to place veterinary offices in suburban locations. He practiced in Upper Arlington for twenty-seven years retiring in 1991. Besides his wife Delphene, he leaves to mourn four sons and their families, Dr. David (Frances) and children, Mark, Brian, Kyle and Amanda, Dr. J. Daniel (Dr. Christine) and children, Melissa, Matthew, Meaghan and Molly, Charles (Karen) and children, Jeffrey and Carly, Michael (Mary) and children, Michael, Jennifer and Stephen; sister-in-law, Madonna Monfort and four nieces, all of Spencerville, OH. For most of his practicing years, Dr. Monfort generously gave of his time and talents to Pilot Dogs where he is a lifetime member. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and the Columbus Academy of Veterinary Medicine. He was a former member of Sertoma International. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, with Fr. Jeffrey Tigyer, Celebrant. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 471 E. Broad Street, #1630, Columbus, OH 43215, in his memory.
