James Shackelford Obituary

SHACKELFORD James A. Shackelford, of Canal Winchester, went to be with the Lord at his residence on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, with his beloved family and friends by his side. Born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Joseph A. and Juanita B. (Welling) Shackelford. Also preceded in death by children Jerry, Jeff, and Jill Shackelford. James was a Coast Guard and Air Force veteran of WWII. He was a member of Pope John XXIII Parish, Canal Winchester; he was also a member of the American Legion and VFW; Potter Lodge, Canal Winchester, 32nd degree F&AM; Aladdin Shrine Temple, Columbus; Moose Lodge, Port Clinton, Ohio; Presidents Club and Alumni Association at the Ohio State University. James was the President of Allen Refractories Company, Pataskala and along with his wife was co-owners and founders of the business. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Margaret "Peig" Shackelford; daughter, Ellen (Robert Marincic) Shackelford; son, James A. (Lesley) Shackelford II; grandchildren, Cormac "Mick" and Roarke Shackelford-Marincic and Reilly and Cian Shackelford and Chris and Kevin Shackelford; sisters, Virginia (Wayne) Dodge, Columbus and Nancy Kay (Robert) Cosner, Baltimore; brothers, Robert (Betty Lou) Shackelford, Columbus and Douglas (Mary Jo) Shackelford, Washington, DC; many nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially colleagues John Fry and Jim Gibson. Friends may visit Friday from 2-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110, where a vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Pope John XXIII Parish, 5170 Winchester-Southern Rd., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. The Rev. Msgr. A. Anthony Frecker, Celebrant. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pataskala. Donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy in his memory.
