To The Steckel Family,

As the Executive Director for NFIB/Ohio, I have known Jim for almost 20 years. He was one of the original Leadership Council members when I was first hired, and served as my Chairman for two terms.

In my humble opinion, Jim was a giant in the central Ohio business community, and through his unselfish involvement in so many organizations he has left a lasting legacy for the betterment of so many Ohioans.

Jim had many wonderful characteristics but the two that will always stand out in my mind are his genuine caring for others’ opinions. In any meeting or event he led, he always made sure that everyone’s opinions were heard and that every one had an equal voice at the table. Secondly, Jim never sought attention to himself. While Jim had a wonderful life story to tell with so many significant accomplishments, he was a deeply humble man.

Each day I will be able to say that Ohio and our Nation are better places because of a lifetime of effort and involvement by James W. Steckel. In my book, he was a true pillar in the small business community.

On a lighter note, I am going to miss those recycled manila envelops he would bring to the office filled with reading materials that Jim didn’t have the heart to throw away. As the technology age got ahead of Jim, I never had the heart to tell him that most of what he brought in for me to read had already been e-mailed to me or that I had read on-line!

Cherish the many fond memories and may God hold you in the palm of His hand during this time of loss.

Uncle Jim,
Your name always fit you well, a 'gem' of a man!! I will always remember my visits to Ohio and spending time with you, Aunt Gloria, Scotty, and Kathie...you always greeted me with your big old bear hug, and your laughter I will never forget.
Thank you for all your insight on life, I love the chats we shared through out the years!
You were truly an amazing and gentle man. I could have never asked for a better uncle than you. I will miss you dearly, but I know you will remain with me in my heart, memories, and spiritually will always be around. I love you!!
Aunt Gloria, Scott, and Kathie; I will see you soon in the spring. Looking forward to spending time with you all. I love you all and my thoughts are with you doing this difficult time!!

Dearest Gloria, Scott and Kathie and families,
You did not "lose" Jim because you all know where he is now - heaven welcomes Jim with open arms. We send our condolences from Florida and are devastated that we cannot be there for you Thursday and Friday. Jim was a "sweet" man whose smile was a ray of sunshine. He genuinely loved people and always made you feel special. He will be sorely missed in our midst.
May you feel God's peace that passeth human understanding. You are ALL in our prayers. In Jesus' Love, Ron and Susie
