Jerald Jerrad Hayes (a.k.a. "Jay-Jay"), age 45, born August 28, 1973 in Elmira, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. A graduate of West High School and the Ohio State School of Cosmetology, Jerald was a barber, certified welder and member of Sheet Metal Union Local #24. Preceded in death by brother Joseph Givens, stepfather Isaac Brown, grandmothers, Mary Jane Bentley and Mattie Givens, grandfather Arthur Givens, aunt Debra Early-Givens, and godsister Kena Adams. Survived by children, JayVon Hayes (Dakia), Jeremiah Hayes (Tami), Jaida Hayes (Sheena); parents, Cassandra Givens and Jerry Hayes; brother Isaac Brown; sister, Justina Brown; grandfather, Charles Bentley; his siblings in GA and NY; aunts, Cheryl (Lorenzo) Jones, Charlotte (Andre) Ward, and Christine Bentley; sister-in-law, Sheronda Byrd-Givens; godmother, Pam (Sonny) Whitehurst; special cousins, Rance Brown, Markese Taylor, and Monica Givens; and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including longtime, special friends, Dakia Horsley, Damon and Darnell Butler, Michael (Spady) Roberts, Alon Jordan, and Monisha Stevens. Celebration of Life 2 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St., where his family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the start of service.
