John Minnis Obituary

Minnis John "Jack" Charles Minnis, passed away May 13, 2016, after bravely and strongly fighting brain tumors over these last few years. He was born November 29, 1943 in Steubenville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Minnis, in-laws John and Olga Buddick and step-dad Robert Manning. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann; and loving daughter, Elizabeth Severe. Also carrying on his legacy and beliefs are his very loved brother-in-law, Bob Buddick; sister-in-law, Susan Buddick; son-in-law, Richard Severe; and above all his precious grandchildren, Calib, Jordan, Conner and baby, Skye. He was also surrounded by many wonderful life-long friends and relatives. After graduating from Steubenville H.S., he continued his sports training at The Ohio State University with Woody Hayes. He also worked with soccer, wrestling, hockey and last but not least, lacrosse. John loved the game of lacrosse and served as an assistant coach for 5 years at OSU, officiated 25 years, was the Ohio High School lacrosse commissioner for 14 years, played 4 years for the Columbus Lacrosse Club and was name Ohio Lacrosse Man of the Year 4 times. John was a member of Community Lodge #684 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1986. He was also a member of the Past Masters Unit of Aladdin Shriners. John and Mary Ann enjoyed many wonderful years playing tennis together, as well as singing together on the back patio, much to the chagrin of neighbors. John will be missed very much by his family and friends. A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, aides and therapists who touched John's life over the last 6 months. God bless the hospice team. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085 with a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m. John would like those attending to wear casual attire, preferably Buckeye colors. John would also ask, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his name to The Ohio State University, Athletic Dept./Mens Lacrosse, 535 Irving Schottenstein Drive, Columbus, OH 43210.

John was an awesome man.He was a fighter and a joy to work with at OhioHealth Rehab Hospital. His little group of "buddies" at the rehab unit made the other patients laugh and join in on things that they may not have participated in. He encouraged others even during his struggles. The knowledge of his passing brought tears to everyone's eyes on the rehab unit at OhioHealth. He will be missed dearly.

John,
You were my boss, mentor, and friend. You were a very big part of my life for many years. I will always remember how you took me to my first OSU football game, taught me to play golf, and gave me so many opportunities to be a better coworker. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. You will be missed, my friend but never forgotten.

We have reached the age that life stops giving us things and begins to take them away. Days ago, The world lost a Grandfather, A Father, A Husband, A Brother in law... The Free Masons lost a Brother. His idea must live on through Us. We must conitnue without His help.
