The Rev. Kenneth W. Marckel, age 80, of Pickerington, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at Canal Winchester Skilled Rehab. He was born September 29, 1937, in Paulding County, Ohio. Ken was a member of Lithopolis United Methodist Church. A graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary, he pastored for 42 years at South Salem Parish, Greenfield, Ohio, Village and Hedges Chapel Churches, Ashville, Ohio, Groveport United Methodist Church, and Associate Pastor at Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. Ken was a member of the West Ohio UMC Conference and Groveport Lodge #240 F.&A.M. He was an avid water-skier, loved his cats and enjoyed watching the game of basketball. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Elisabeth "Liz" Marckel; children, Vonda (Michael) Sweeney, Valerie (Christopher) Wood, Eric (Sarah) Herdman, Dr. Marc (Natalie) Herdman; grandchildren, Lauren (Kyle) Smith, Michael Sweeney, Caleb and Amelia Wood, Sam and Ben Herdman; brothers, Glen (Gloria) Marckel, Leslie (Cindy) Marckel; sister, Ramona Gephart; many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit 2-6 pm on Friday, April 27, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Amanda Olson, will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 28, at Lithopolis United Methodist Church, 80 N. Market St., Lithopolis, OH 43136. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's name can be made to Lithopolis United Methodist Church. Online condolences at www.spencefuneralhome.com

Ken was a very good pastor. He was the minister that confirmed me, did my wedding, was there for my son when he was so sick in the hospital, and also made it special when Ken was able to baptize my oldest son Brandon. He was a good friend.
