we were grad students together at Michigan and met a few times after that when our careers crossed briefly. An old and dear friend. His son, Uni, and my son, David , were also early friends and both died far too young. I am sorry to learn of his death almost a year later and extend my condolences to him wife and daughter.

Krishnan was always a warm, vibrant personality, encouraging and supportive of his students and colleagues as well as a brilliant scholar. Single-handedly, he founded the use of life table analysis and a wide range of demographic and statistical techniques which are widely used today.

I was thinking a lot about Krishnan-- on my birthday, April 28, 2015. He was my favorite, warmest and MOST demanding graduate professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. Learning of his death today saddens me. But I will always remember his warm smile. He was indeed an extremely fine gentleman... and an intellectual giant.

Our heartfelt condolence to Aunty Namboodiri, Shally and the whole family. It is just not their personal loss but a loss to the academic world. Prof Namboodiri will be missed for his genius and generosity. He was a great human being who showered his love and blessing to me and my family.
