Larry Huston Obituary

HUSTON Larry P. Huston, 69, of Westerville, Ohio died suddenly Monday, July 30th at his home. He was born August 1, 1937 in Adario, Ohio son of G. Leo and Oris Huston. Larry graduated from Savannah High School in 1955 as valedictorian of his class. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 1960 and served as Senior Class President. He was a four year starter on the OSU basketball teams and served as team captain in 1959. He tipped off the first game at St. John Arena in 1957, and some of his high school and college basketball records still stand. After his graduation from OSU, he worked several years in retail pharmacy before he returned to school and earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Kansas University in 1974. As a talented musician, Larry often entertained family and friends with his accordion and piano playing. He provided music for his wife's first grade's annual Oktoberfest for 25 years. Larry worshipped at Karl Road Baptist Church where he often served as a greeter. Above all he was a loving husband and father, a caring grandfather and a loyal friend. His laughter and sense of humor will be sorely missed. Larry is survived by his wife, Laurie Meyers Huston, his high school sweetheart, whom he married on August 11, 1957. He is also survived by his mother, Oris Huston; and his sister, Norma (Lorrell) Mast, both of Wadsworth; his daughter, Sharon (Dale) Thompson of Columbus; his son, Jeff (Sally) Huston of Westerville; and six grandchildren, Eric, Christian and Victoria Thompson, Kelly, Jamie and Steven Huston). Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Karl Road Baptist Church in Columbus. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh, Ohio on the following Monday at 11 a.m. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. or Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in Karl Road Baptist Church. HILL FUNERAL HOME in Westerville, Ohio is handling the funeral arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Karl Road Baptist Church. Larry was a wonderful ambassador for Ohio State and the profession of pharmacy. His son Jeff follows in his footsteps. Dr. Jack Beal of the OSU College of Pharmacy (and like Larry a fellow Jayhawk), introduced me to Larry as a proud Buckeye and Jayhawk. Jack always laughed that he and Larry reversed each other's academic pathways. Larry was one of the good guys and will be missed. May he Rest in Peace.

Dear Laurie and Family......Some people are missed more than words can say.....And more than hearts should have to feel.....The extended Meyers family has become special to us through our friendship with Jan and Ron...and we want you to know we lift you and yours in prayer for comfort and peace as we remember Larry's smile and his gift of good will to those around him. We feel certain you will all love each other through this experience until you are reunited with Larry in God's perfect Heaven, to praise Him together, eternally.
Sincerely, John and Linda Doepker

Dear Laurie,
I was greatly saddened to learn of Larry's death. Not only was he an excellent athlete while at college but clearly an outstanding student in the College of Pharmacy. He was widely admired. There is little one can say to soften the great loss that you and your family are experiencing. Kindest regards.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Huston family. I had the pleasure of working with Larry at Mediserv Pharmacy, he always kept me laughing and I always enjoyed working with him. I will never forget Larry and he will be truly missed.

Laurie,
I was so saddened to hear of Larry's death. You two made such an indelible impression on me during the times you spent with our family during your OSU days. I've seldom been around a couple who were so uniquely and outstandingly individuals, yet so fully a "couple". I imagine that reality will both assure a full rich life ahead for you, but also a particularly deep sense of loss. Though I haven't met your children and grandchildren, it was clear when we spoke at Ruby's service in Ashland that you are blessed with a close, loving family. I am so happy for you that you have that cushion of comfort around you now.

Love,
Ruthann Cochran Prange

Laurie and family,
Please accept our sincere and heartfelt sympathy. We were so glad that we had recently seen both you and Larry in Ashland. We send love and prayers to all and hope that you can take comfort in memories of good times and Larry's positive influence on so many. I know that Dad is already enjoying a concert on the accordian. I'm so sorry for your loss. Larry had a big influence on my life when I worked with him on N. High. He taught me some life lesson. I admired him greatly.

To the Huston Family:
Denise and I will always remember working with Larry and the friendship and laughter that he shared. He was a pharmacy mentor to me and he inspired and encouraged my wife to follow her goals of becoming a registered nurse. We both graduated from The Ohio State University while we were still working with Larry at Mediserv Pharmacy and we always tried to stay in touch over the years as we followed our own career paths. Our lives would not be as full today without Larry. We will miss Larry very much and we hope that you take comfort in knowing how much Larry will be remembered by the many lives that he touched.

Laurie and Family:

Steve and I are so saddened to hear of your Larry's passing on Monday. Even though Larry is in his heavenly home, he will be missed here. It seems God's timing isn't ours. We can't imagine looking forward to your 50th celebration, and this happens.

We will always remember you and Larry when you opened the doors at Karl Road Baptist Church and greeted us when we entered, both having the most wonderful sincere smiles.

Please accept our condolences and may God give you the peace and comfort at this time.

Love and Prayers,

Steve and Jeri Ward

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
