Leslie Burke Obituary

BURKE Leslie H. Burke, age 83, of Delaware, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in the Sarah Moore Home. He was born July 23, 1927 in Columbus to Edward and Maude (Gregg) Burke. He graduated from Berlin High School where he lettered in basketball. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines. He was a retired construction superintendent and supervised in the construction of many OWU fraternities, sororities, the president's house and many other buildings in the Delaware Area. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Carpenters Local 200 and a life member of the NRA. He was an avid OSU fan, enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was devoted to his family and was so proud of his daughter, son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Dave) Ames; a son, Steven (Mindie); grandsons, Benjamin, Matthew and Mark Ames; granddaughters, Leeann and Allison Burke; great-grandsons, Ryder McKinley and Burke Colvin; numerous nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, September 15, 2010, brothers Robert and Charles and sisters Virginia Adams and Helen Steck. Visitation will be Friday from 2-5 p.m. at the ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. with Rev. Patricia Stout officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sarah Moore Home, 26 N. Union St., Delaware, Ohio, 43015. My favorite memory is Dorothy and Les reigning over the Brown Jug Day party. I was wiped out after a few hours, but they stayed and played the whole day!
