Margaret Farnham Obituary

Farnham, Margaret Ann
1926 - 2018
Margaret Ann "Marge" Farnham, 92, died September 22, 2018, at home surrounded by family. A native of Toledo, Ohio, she was born April 7, 1926, to Margaret Theresa (Rich) and Walter Bowers. She graduated from Whitney Vocational High School with a concentration in "foods" and went to work as a billing clerk for Buddies Box Lunch. After her marriage to Valden F. Farnhamin 1947, she stayed home to raise their five children. Marge cherished her family and friends, hosting parties and family gatherings and sharing her love for food and entertaining with all who gathered in her home. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Toledo, where she sang in the choir, served as president of the women's group, and cooked many meals. With most of her children raised in the early 1970s, she returned to work part time as a switchboard operator and in the print shop at the Toledo Museum of Art. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She belonged to several bridge groups and bowled for many years with the DeVeaux Mother's and St. Paul's Couple's leagues. She traveled extensively with her husband, family, and friends and particularly enjoyed the years spent at their winter home in Hudson, Florida. Marge will be remembered for her lively spirit, her joy in doing for others, and the overwhelming love she had for her family. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Valden; children, Gary (Nancy) of New York City, Valerie (Tom) Wilkinson of Westerville, Bruce (Dianna) of Weld, Maine, Mark (Lisa) of Charleston, S.C., and Margie (Maureen) of Columbus; grandchildren, Brian (Shae) Wilkinson, Scott (Alicia) Wilkinson, Nathan (Julie) Wilkinson, Ariela Farnham, Travis (Hana) Farnham, Jenna Farnham, Narda (Wes) Hanson, Amy (Rob) Miller, and Richard Huntley; and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia MacKay. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. and a reception lunch at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1555 South James Road, Columbus, Ohio 43227. Memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215. I am truly honored to have been part of mrs. Farnham's life for what small part I had I am truly thankful to God that he put me with her,I loved and took care of her like she was my own family, the first morning I ever helped her get dressed Margie would always have very nice clothes laid out for her mom I helped her get dressed put her makeup on and she would pick out the Rings and bracelet that went with her outfit that morning and her favorite necklace she always wore but most of all she said I need my earrings I feel naked without them and I laughed because I have always said that about having my earrings in and that was our first good chuckle that we had together, there were a lot of smiles and chuckals after that too. I have never seen such a great support system that mrs. Farnham had with all her children it always warmed my heart seeing how all her children would come together to help their mom. I will truly truly truly miss this beautiful lady that I was honored to take care of and I know now she is up in heaven doing all her creative baking getting ready to make that Christmas rock candy that she was famous for making , she is now a guardian angel to all of her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Truly truly one big beautiful family you have Marge I'll miss you with all my heart and I pray for strength for your family and your wonderful husband of 71yrs Val through this trying time until we meet again sincerely your caregiver CindySkeens
