My brother and I were under Mr. Sewell's direction at Crooksville High School early in his career. We, along with everyone else, loved him. Sad when he left, but he went on to bigger and better things. So sorry to here of his passing.

Mike was one of my High School classmates and a very good friend of my twin brother Jim. So naturally I got to know Mike better as a friend and it was easy to see even at that young age that Mike had that wonderful quality of sincerely being interested in his friends activities! I spent many a night playing basketball out back of his house along with his brother Mark and his his parents would ALWAYS come out and make it a point to say HI to all us freeloaders. To this day as I pass his old house I still have warm fond memories. Mike was a genuine treasure that I'm blessed to have had in my time on Earth. Thank You Mike

Deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Sewell. My daughter Lauren Mock met her husband when we hosted him and 3 other members of the University of Wisconsin marching band in Pickerington her senior year 2000! They married in 2009! Thank You Mr Sewell!

Karen,
I am grateful that you and Mike were part of my young life. If weren't for you, I would not be where I am today. You and Mike cared enough to help a struggling student graduate and move on to successes of my own. Thank you both.

It was an honor to be his student...not only to learn the art he mastered...but to learn how to live our lives after we left his care. He not only built a music program...but a family and a legacy in all of us that can never be forgotten. Looking back on highschool...every memory that stays...begins on that band field. Where we learned...if you were on time you were already late. We learned pride and precision; how to lead and how to follow (after all a section is only as strong as it's weakest link)...and that poker chips have many uses. My life was made better by the musical family he created. My thoughts and thanks go out to his family...Sharing him changed so many if us for the better.

I have know Mike since the 70's and he is one of the most influential individuals I have ever know. His passion for music and sports is contagious and you can not get caught up in his appreciation. He is also a very selfless person, the last time I saw Mike he was in a wheel chair and true to Mike's character he ask how my health was with true concern. He was a true friend and we were all better for being in his life! I will miss my friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have always enjoyed Gretchen sharing about your family and the band's latest performances. I still remember watching the band march by the year we attended the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

I had the pleasure of being in band under the direction of Mr. Sewell, at Pickerington HS back in 1992-94. He really had a great talent for teaching and a knack for encouraging and working with students. I recall his passion for teaching, his love of music (especially Andrew Lloyd Weber!), and talent for getting the band to work together and improve. Playing during the High School Football games were a blast. And as a high school student, it sure was quite an experience going to the Rose Bowl and playing at some of the pro football games. I'll always cherish the fond memories!

I was Blessed to have Mr Sewell and A Director, Teacher . Not only did he guide me through difficult times he was there to clebrate the good. The children our future teach them and let them lead the way show them all the glory they have inside teach them a since of pride ( something he would say to us as kids). He was my mentor a father to so many . I am truly sorry for the loss of such a wonderful leader . Deonna Quincel class 1985

Karen, Dan, Alyson,Andrew and Lea:
There's honestly no words I can say. Mr. Sewell was a teacher, friend, mentor and father figure to a very huge extended family and his over two thousand kids.
I remember fondly how he always got on us when circles had corners or the squares were always round somehow. Yet no matter how many times that happened he knew we nail it when the time came.
I must honestly say, it was a huge honor learning under him and having him as a teacher. I have nothing but huge respect and will cherish every single memory and lesson and will greatly miss him.
Love and prayers to all of you
