Clum, Mildred "Middy"
1932 - 2020
Mildred "Middy" Marie (Benson) Clum, 88, of Carroll entered eternal life on December 19, 2020, surrounded by the love of her three daughters. Born February 14, 1932 to the late Jay E. and Bessie (Norris) Benson, she was a 1950 graduate of Carroll High School where she had been a cheerleader and majorette. After working as a switchboard operator and secretary at RBM Essex Wire, she loved being a full time mother once her children were born.
Middy was active in the community and served thirteen years on Village Council as well as being a charter member and secretary for the Carroll Area Historical Society, along with many other groups she helped over the years. She was known as the town historian for her extensive knowledge, and published a wonderful book in 2015 documenting Carroll's history. Her friendships were long and true. We are still being astounded at the impact she had on so many of her friends and relatives. Never was there a friend like Middy. She was an avid reader and writer and passed her love of the written word to her three daughters. She adored spending time with her grandchildren. A mother's wisdom, kindness and love will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Earl Donald "Donny" Clum, on November 12, 2020; her parents; father- and mother-in-law Earle G. and Iva (McLaughlin) Clum; brother Jay Benson; and sister Crystal Rader. Middy is survived by beloved daughters Tammy Diane (Edward) Drobina of Carroll, Amy Beth Clum of Carroll, and Linda Colleen (Scott) Border of New London, Ohio; grandchildren Jeremy Golden, Greg Golden, Dylan Border, Tessa Border, and Landon Border; sister Jayne Linscott, sister-in-law Judy Benson, nieces, nephews, her loyal cousin Cecelia "Cissy" (Doug) Behrens, other dear family members and many, many good friends. Dignity Cremation was handled by Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. A combined graveside service for Middy and Donny will be held next spring. For the full obituary, visit www.haltemanfettdyer.com.

So sorry to hear of Middy's passing, she was truly a remarkable lady, she is now with Donny. My sympathy and prayers are with you all as you grieve your loss. I am so thankful I got to see Middy at the beauty shop Last year, I lost my husband almost 2 years ago and we were talking about him. He got to know Donny when we lived in Carroll. May God be with you and Bless you with beautiful memories of your parents. She will be missed.

I was so sad to see that Middy had passed away, I don't get the paper so I was thinking about how she was after Donny passed, Please know that my prayers are with you all, I am glad they are together again. I am so glad I got to see her at the beauty shop this year, we had a great talk. God Bless you all. we knew them when we lived in Carroll, and our Kids went to school with all the kids.

I didn’t know Middy, but read her obituary because we know a Clum family (turns out they are not related), but once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. This is the most beautiful tribute to a life well-lived. I have had the privilege of email interaction with her daughter, Tammy, regarding some community events for early childhood. In reading Middy’s life story, I now understand why her daughter is such a kind and helpful person. What a gift Middy has been to so many. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet her, but I know her legacy lives on...
