Nancy Shearer Obituary

SHEARER Nancy L. Shearer, age 75, passed away quietly in her sleep on August 11, 2011 following a sudden stroke. For the past few years, Nancy was a resident of Villa Christe Assisted Living Center on the Duchesne Academy Campus. Nancy was born in rural Southeastern Ohio and moved to Omaha in 1966. Nancy was a long time advocate for children and families, having worked as a Child Protective Services Social Worker for almost 35 years. Following her retirement from the State of Nebraska, Nancy devoted herself to her family, friends, gardening, baking and her grandchildren who lovingly called her their "Ba Ba." Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Willard and Betty LaFollette of Columbus, OH, her sister Mary Ann (LaFollette) Redinbaugh of Reno, NV and former husband Kenneth E. Shearer of Denver, CO. Nancy is survived in death by her children: son Kenneth A. Shearer of Tokyo, Japan and daughter Elizabeth A (Shearer) Young of Omaha, as well as Elizabeth's husband Stephen D. Young of Omaha and their two children Charles David and Alexandra Elizabeth. Charles will be a freshman at Gross Catholic High School and Alexandra will be entering the 5th grade at St. Cecilia's Catholic Elementary School. Nancy is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kurt Redinbaugh; nephews, Erik and Ian Redinbaugh and Erik's wife, Kris and their son, Luke, all of Reno, NV. Nancy is also survived by her best friends, Harry DiLise, Marin Hanna and Richard Andersen, all of Omaha; as well as her beloved schnauzers Mocha and Buddy. Funeral service Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 10:45 a.m. from WESTLAWN HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME, to a 11:15 a.m. Mass at St. Cecilia's Cathedral, 701 N. 40th St., Omaha, NE. Visitation Tuesday 5-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Wake service at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 4912 Leavenworth St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the Nebraska Humane Society, 8929 Fort St., Omaha, NE, 68134.
