Peter Baker Obituary

Mr. Peter G. Baker, 66, of Naples FL and formerly of Milford and Bellingham, died suddenly Tuesday (November 20, 2012) at Naples Community Hospital after being stricken at his residence. Mr. Baker was born in Quincy MA, the son of the late Michael J. and the late Georgiana (Peters) Baker. He was a graduate of Bellingham High School, Class of 1965, and also a graduate of Northeastern University, Class of 1977. He was a Viet Nam veteran having served in the US Marine Corps. Mr. Baker was first employed as a young man at GAF Inc., located in Franklin MA and later at Braun's Express Company, located in Hopedale MA. He then started his own express company called Total Transportation located in Hopedale MA. Around 1985 he moved to Elgin IL, where he owned and operated SEKO Air Freight Company, until his retirement. After moving to Marco Island FL, he opened ADKOS, which included nineteen facilities across the United States. Mr. Baker was Boy Scout leader for Troop #6 in Milford as a young father. He was an avid airplane pilot and helicopter enthusiast who had his flight instructor's license. He possessed his CFII and was also an active member of the Civil Air Patrol in Florida, where he served as the Group 5 Chief Check Pilot and the Marco Squadron Check Pilot. He owned a number of aircraft over the years. Mr. Baker was involved in setting the world speed record for aircraft during his career. Mr. Baker was an active member of the Marco Island Senior Softball League during his eight years of participation. Mr. Baker is survived by his 2 Sons: Michael J. Baker and his wife Martine L'Etoile of Nottingham NH and Christopher P. Baker of Naples FL; 1 Brother: Alexander Baker of Hopedale MA; 2 Sisters: Penelope Waskiewicz and her husband David of Upton MA and Joanne Wood of Hopedale MA; several nieces and nephews; his longtime partner: Donna Thayer of Naples FL and formerly of Bellingham MA who resided with him the past two years; also Alane (Charzenski) Baker of Milford MA and the mother of his two sons and Rebekah DeMaria of Naples FL, from a previous marriage. Mr. Baker was the brother of the late Maria Giardini, of Bradenton FL. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Funeral Services on Thursday (November 29th) at 10am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston MA. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday (November 28th) from 2 to 4pm & 6 to 8pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. I just found out about Peters passing, I'm in shock. He called offen to see what he could do for my wife who has been sick and now is in a nursing home. We were neighbors in Franklin Ma. Many good times and the last time I saw him when he came up to SRQ to have his plane work on....Miss you Peter RIP

condolences to the baker family he was a great guy and working at total trans was my first trucking job. he made it fun to come to work every day with his daily jokes around the loading docks im proud that i had the chance to work for him and will always be in my heart.
