Richard David Landsberg

Landsberg Richard David Landsberg, 58, formerly of Delaware, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home February 26, 2014. He was born February 18, 1956 in Urbandale, Iowa, to Earl Wayne and Marjorie Elizabeth Landsberg. He is preceded in death by his sister Laura, as well as his parents. Following in his father's footsteps he developed a passion for golf early in life which eventually led him to the University of Tulsa on a full golf scholarship. There he earned a bachelor's degree in English, and a law degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law. In addition, he held a Master of Legal Letters in Financial Services Law from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law and a Master of Liberal Studies from the University of North Carolina. Following law school, he joined the Navy and served in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. Throughout his career he was a writer and commentator serving on many editorial boards and publishing over 100 articles. He was also an executive panelist for the McKinsey Quarterly, and an Associate Editor of "Executive Compensation". He held faculty positions with The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, Purdue University, The University of Iowa College Of Law, Capital University Law School and William Penn College. He served on the U.S. Department of Labor Advisory Council on Pension & Welfare Benefit Plans, where he was the vice chair of the Working Group on Retirement Distributions and chairperson of the Working Group on Prudent Investment Process. He was Director, Advanced Consulting Group with Nationwide Financial and his tenure there brought him much joy both professionally and personally. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Iowa Bar Association, Association for Advanced Life Underwriting, Member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He was the founder of the Golf Society of the Potomac, member of Shriners International, The Philalethes Society, Eastern Star, Free Mason Hiram Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Active with Duck's Unlimited, Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, Delaware Chamber of Commerce Charities - American Rivers, The Nature Conservancy, Make a Wish Foundation, Angel Network, Humane Society of Delaware County. He was a former catechist for two different Episcopalian Dioceses and a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Rich is survived by his loving wife, Kay Veach-Cline Landsberg; and his feline friend, Dr. Lucky; step-daughters, Cindy Cline (Ryan) and Amy Mowry (Kevin); beloved grandson, JD Mowry; brothers-in-law, John Veach (Cheryl) of Marion, Ohio, and Charles Veach (Stacy) of Centerburg, Ohio; sister-in-law, Becky McKelvey (Matthew) of Marengo, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves numerous friends including his loving Nationwide Financial family- Ken Boothe, Gail Chrisley, Dee Dee Chadwick, Shawn Britt, Don Schreiber, Steve Hamilton, his church family, his family of friends back in Urbandale, Iowa, dear friends Wendy and Butch Proctor and Andrew Shapiro. Friends may call at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville. Ohio, Thursday, March 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.. Service will be held at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 7521 S. Old State Road, Lewis Center, Ohio, Saturday, March 8th at 11 a.m. Fr. Ron Baird officiating. Interment at Africa Cemetery immediately following services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Anglican Church or The Humane Society of Delaware County. Though this is not a journey Rich would have chosen, he was never at a loss of words for the loving kindness and care he felt toward all the loved ones in his life including his felines companions, Dr. Lucky and Miss Lola. There are no words to express how thankful the family is for the heartfelt care and support Rich received from Dr. Craig C.Hofmeister and his team at the OSU James Cancer Institute, Heartland Hospice and the numerous friends of which there are too many to mention.
