Richard Sutton Obituary

SUTTON Richard L. Sutton, age 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior August 12, 2005. He was born to Maurley and Corrine Sutton in Chillicothe, OH on November 8, 1927. He attended The Ohio State and Franklin Universities with a degree in Business Education. He served his country dutifully in the U.S. Army Air Corp, then went on to work with Jaeger Machine Company in Columbus. He was later recruited as Director of Employee and Labor Relations for the United States Postal Service in Columbus, OH and Miami, FL. He retired as Postmaster of Palmetto in 1992 after a noteworthy and lengthy career of public service. Richard was a member of Luther B. Turner Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and Shrine in Columbus, OH. He was Past President of the Palmetto Rotary Club and a holder of a Paul Harris Scholarship Award. The membership he cherished most was belonging to Palmetto First Baptist Church and the "Gems" Sunday school class. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Virginia "Jinny"; his children that he forever adored are daughters, Gloria Jean (Dr. Sheldon) Kerner, Shelley C. (David) Shevchik, Cindy (Ken) Gardner; foster daughter, Anna Scott; and son, Richard R. (Tricia) Sutton. He had six grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Mossy, Dr. Rachel (Jeff) Kerner, Alexis (Tomas) Llamas-Kerner, Ashlee (Stephen) Sutton, Courtney Haydock and Cierra Sutton. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, Ashlyn and Savannah Jane Mossy; and brother, Robert M. (Donna) Sutton. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. located at First Baptist Church of Palmetto, 1020 Fourth Street West, Palmetto, FL 34221. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
