It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Margaret “Fern” Sutton, of Maryville, Tennessee on March 6th, 2026, at the age of 83. Our beloved mother, “Nannie”, sister, family member and friend passed away at home surrounded by family after battling kidney disease. Fern was born on October 12, 1942, and was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church and Unity Christian Church for many years. Known for her warm heart, crafty creations and delicious cooking, Fern taught all that knew her the meaning of love and strength. She was proud of her long career with U.S. Foodservice and retired as the VP of Marketing. She enjoyed sewing, UT Volunteers, listening to Elvis, meeting regularly with her Everett High School reunion group, and cooking for her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Douglas Sutton; daughter, Kim Denise Sutton; sons Paul Douglas Sutton II and William Burl Sutton; parents, Bart and Hazel McMurray; brothers, Lynn McMurray (Imogene) and Luke McMurray (Evelyn); sisters, Frances McLean and Gladys Harbison, and special friend Kathy Maples. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Marie Sutton; grandson, Zach Sutton (Haley), granddaughter, Gabby Retamoza (Tim); great-grandchildren, Hudson Kash Retamoza, Stella Grace Sutton, Truett Lane Retamoza and Hallie Bee Retamoza; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Ruth McMurray; James and Vicky McMurray, Edward and Betty McMurray; sisters and brother-in-law, Joyce Sutton (Donnie) and Patsy Toney; many nieces and nephews. Fern also leaves behind her special friends Bea Hart, Karen Axley, Danny Maples, Sylvia Garland, Sonny and Sandra Blevins and Martha Miller. To celebrate her life, the family will receive friends on Saturday, March 21st from 12-2pm with a memorial service immediately following at 2pm at Smith Trinity Chapel.
