What a wonderful man and boss - kind, compassionate, fun, hard-working, always expecting your best effort. Mr. Vogel was the store manager when I got my very first job at the Big Bear store on W. Broad Street in 1956. In his own special way, he set an example for all of his employees. I met my husband at Big Bear when he hired on as a carry-out boy. What fun days! We both left for college after high school graduation but would see Mr. Vogel occassionally in various Big Bear stores and he was always so friendly. Because of him we shopped at Big Bear store, until sadly, they closed. May you find comfort in knowing that he left his mark on any people. May the love of friends and family carry you through your loss. Sharon Dent Pennell

Mr. Vogel was a frat man. I agree when he walked into the store, he made us happy and glad to be there. He treated employees like family. He had to come up with the idea for the Big Bear Hug ad. He was a great man to work for.

Very sorry to hear about Dick's passing. I worked for him and with him for a lot of years (35 of them). I learned a lot from him and then replaced him when he retired. A tough , fair and knowledgeable boss and mentor. N. Larry Bardash

Mr Vogel was a great man ! His visits to Big Bear kept us all in line -He was fair and kind - I remember talking to him one day and he said our job was like a movie - "lights , camera , action "! Once the store opened each day - I still remember that today - at least 25 years later -
May he rest in peace - he made a difference in many people's life's including mine .

My deepest sympathy to the family. I recall being a neighbor to the Vogel family on E. Main St., and attending East Elementary and Lancaster High with Dick, and playing in the School Band. He will be missed by all.

Paula Mathews, I so loved Mr. Vogel. I worked for Big Bear from 1968 to 1996, he was a very kind and friendly person. I have wondered many times what he did after Big Bear. Also worked with Gary.
