Ronald Rogers Obituary

Rogers Ronald R. Rogers was born in Hartwell, WV on December 21, 1951. He was the eighth-born child of Levi Rogers and Lucille Waller Rogers. He passed away on July 29. 2013. Ronnie, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Linden McKinley High School in Columbus, and completed his Associate Degree in Computer Sciences at Stayer University. He was baptized at an early age and was a devout Christian. Ronnie worked as a Master Printer for Xerox Corporation before moving into the Computer Technology field. He later moved to Bethesda, MD where he worked as a computer analyst for Automated Data Processing (ADP) in Bethesda. After moving back to Columbus in the 1990's, he began working for Health Management Systems (HMS) where he finished his career as an Information Technology Specialist. Ronnie was very much a family man. His love for and devotion to his family was obvious to everyone who knew him. He adored his Mother, and he enjoyed a very special relationship with his nieces and nephews. Ronnie was famous for directing family social events, and he relished his role as the family gardener. He could grow anything! And he frequently won the "Biggest Fish" award in the family's "Guy's Only Annual Fishing Trip on Lake Erie." Among his co-workers Ronnie was described as "the kindest, most patient IT Specialist we have ever worked with." Ronnie is survived by his beloved mother, Lucille Rogers of Columbus; his father, Levi Rogers is deceased. He also is survived by four brothers, James (Nancy), John, Christopher, and Gregory (Laura); one adopted brother, Sterling; one brother, Warren, who preceded him in death; five sisters, Mary Smith, Joyce Rogers, Delores Lawson, Iris Scott, and Teresa Thomas; one sister, Brenda, died in infancy. He also is survived by 19 nieces and nephews; 23 great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral service 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at The Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, 1650 Wilson Avenue, Columbus, OH 43207, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the start of service. Ron was truly a person that set the bar when it came to how he interacted with others. More than a dozen years ago, I was the new kid on the company block and I didn't know how to shut my computer down properly. I asked one co-worker and in turn she asked Ron if he could help. He came over to my desk and showed me what to do. Looking back in hindsight this was done without hesitation or grumbling. Little did I know that such a solid rapport would be built over the years.

Ron and I would joke with each other about our accrued time off from work. One of his classic remarks to me was "some people have the NERVE to take vacation!" Ron was known for keeping a pantry of food at his work station. His desk was decorated with apples, oranges, peanuts, and cookies! Yet he was kind to place bags of fruit in the break room for all to enjoy that he and his family picked at Lynd's. Also, it became an enjoyable tradition for me to hear about the menu that his family feasted on over the holidays or on Sundays. There are so many good qualities that I could say about Ron, yet no words can define how much Ron will be missed.

May the family and friends of Ron be comforted and strengthened as you hold him near and dear to your hearts with individual and collective memories.

Sincerely and respectfully in prayer,
~Tina Pryor

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal - Fact. The loss of this special person will take a long time for us to make the adjustment. Ron was one of God's angels on earth. I can speak for many of us here at Permedion - Ron will be missed more than words can express. He was more than a co-worker, he was a gentleman, buddy, adviser, helper, someone who could make you laugh, rescuer, and friend who daily shared the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Rest in Peace! Ron we have much love for you.
