Roy Reed Obituary

Reed Jr. The Rev. Roy A. Reed Jr., Ph.D., age 84, of Delaware, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, April 19, 2015. He was born on November 6, 1930 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Roy and Dorothy (Elquist) Reed. Roy completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Redlands in California, with a Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Music. He continued his studies at the Boston School of Theology earning a Masters of Theology. Roy completed his education with a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Boston University. He served as Professor of Liturgy and Music with the Methodist Theological School of Ohio for 34 years, retiring in 1997. A life centered on music, he published several books, served as minister of music for Asbury United Methodist Church for 35 years and directed the Delaware Community Chorus for several years. His musicals interests were wide spread including early music, opera, and the symphony. Roy also studied the history of WWII and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Lou (Lee) Reed; children, Edward (Imelda) Reed, Daniel Reed (Mariah Dyson-Smith), Karen Reed, Linda Reed; step-children, Lesa (Richard) Haas, Keith (Drema) Wells; four grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Max, Lucas; step-grandchildren, Megan (Jason) Provino, Erin Haas (fiancé, Gabe Flores), Lauren (Brendan) Greisberger, Ashley (Kevin) Patton, Tawny (Joe) Miracle, Tessa Wells (Pat Roehrer); one great-grandchild, Carli Patton; brother, John Charles Reed; brother-in-law, Charles Simmons; and former wife and mother of his children, Beth Reed. He was also preceded in death by his sister Jeanette Simmons. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 55 W. Lincoln St., Delaware, Ohio 43015. Memorial contributions can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Music Fund, 55 W. Lincoln St., Delaware, Ohio 43015 or Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Ave., Marion, Ohio 43302. Condolences may be expressed at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
