Ruth Tarpy Obituary

TARPY Ruth Tarpy, of Delaware, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her home. She was born in Columbus to C.A. and Mary Elizabeth (Dennison) Hughes. She had resided in Delaware City since 1959. A graduate of Ohio State University, earning B.S. and Master Degrees, Mrs. Tarpy began her teaching career at Franklin, Ohio followed by Washington Court House, Sunbury and Buckeye Valley, where she became the principal of Ashley School and then of Radnor Middle School. Mrs.Tarpy served from January 1990 – July 2003 as a member of the Delaware City School Board of Education. She was a member of the William Street United Methodist Church and the Women's City Club. She is survived by daughters, Maryann (Larry) Sweeney of Marysville and Elizabeth Tarpy of Dublin; two grandsons, Jim (Kacey) Sweeney of Powell and Joe Sweeney of Arlington, VA.; a brother, Jack (Bonnie) Hughes; nieces, Jackie Hughes of L.A. and Jody Hughes of Arizona; and her devoted care giver, Donna Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James Tarpy. Calling hours will be Tuesday, 5-8 p.m. at the ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME, Delaware. A graveside service for the family and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Grason Atha officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 St. Rte. 37 East, Delaware, OH 43015 or to the Ruth Tarpy Scholarship Fund c/o The Delaware County Bank and Trust Co., 41 North Sandusky St., Delaware, OH 43015. Mrs. Trapy was my elementary principal and family friend. I have not seen her in years, but have thought of her often. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to her family. Mrs. Tarpy was a wonderful lady and will be missed.
