Sarah Kiley Obituary

KILEY Sarah Jane Kiley. Shortly before three a.m. on Thursday, June 29th, Sarah Jane Kiley, age 47, lost her eight year battle with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, an autoimmune liver disease. She had been under the care of the Cleveland Clinic since March 17th, 2006. Sarah had three main passions: family, the PBCers, and her real estate career. She was also known to dabble in politics and was a lifelong Democrat. Sarah is preceded in death by her father Manuel Sobel, maternal grandparents Helen and David Friedburg, paternal grandparents Pauline and Isaac Sobel, sister-in-law Margaret Simione, mother- and father-in-law Jean and David Kiley. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; daughters, Jordan and Rebekah; mother, Ruth Sobel; brothers, Michael (Kathy) Sobel, and Daniel (Shelley) Sobel; sisters, Deborah Sobel, and Elizabeth Sobel. Also including many beloved aunt and uncles, cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces, family, and friends around the world. When she was diagnosed with PBC eight years ago, Sarah almost immediately became involved in the PBC support network. She was a strong advocate for both the PBCers organization and the American Liver Foundation, helping hundreds to find the health care they deserved. She treated each person she encountered as family, and they in turn made her a part of their extended family. Real estate was also a passion. Sarah loved helping people create a home. People who were her clients were more than that; they too became members of her extended family, and friends for life. Her personal relationships with her clients enabled her to have a successful career in which she received numerous awards and honors. Sarah lived life to the fullest. She was a compassionate giver, who loved her friends dearly. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, a piece of good advice, or her support. Whatever she did, she gave it her all. Her interests ranged from roller skating to political campaigns, as well as inspiring those around her. She believed in free thinking and encouraged it in others. When someone wasn't getting treated fairly, Sarah spoke up. Her presence will be sorely missed in Rubinos, Cup O' Joes, and all her favorite hang outs. Funeral service 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main Street, with Rabbi Harold Berman and Cantor Jack Chomsky officiating. Burial to follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Kiley residence at 744 S. Remington Rd., in Bexley. Memorial contributions preferred to PBCers Organization, 1430 Garden Road, Pearland, TX 77581. Online guestbook at www.epsteinmemorial.com.

We are so saddened to hear of Sarah's passing. We were probably her last clients. She took us out for 3 days of house hunting in November. We knew right away what a special person she was. When she drove us around, she was always waving at somebody she knew and people always stopped to talk with her. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, who she always talked about with such admiration, pride, and enjoyment.

To Sarah's family,

I moved to Columbus from Chicago last year and Sarah was so incredible helping my son, Jake, and I find a home. I met her daughter and her husband at different times throughout our home search so my thoughts and prayers go out to you all. She is a dear person and I am so saddened to hear this news. I'm grateful to have been able to meet her.

I was extremely saddened to hear of Sarah's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sarah's family and friends. In the brief time that I worked with her, she made an impact in my life as I am sure she has made in the lives of many others. She had such a good heart and never took anything for granted. She enjoyed every aspect of life and will be sorely missed.

My prayers go out to Sarah's family and everyone who loved her and was touched by her.

I met Sarah in Las Vegas in '05 at the PBC'ers conference. Her knowledge, positive attitude, grace and kind spirit touched and helped me. She sought me out weeks later just to see how I was doing.

What an amazing life she lived to have touched and inspired so many. Her kindness will live on in all of our hearts and memories.

Sarah has a special place in my heart. When she talked about her family you could hear the love in her voice. I had met Sarah a number of years ago though PBC and we spent time together. I live in WA state but was visiting OH and we met for lunch. After lunch we went shoe shopping at the Outlet Mall.

You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Sarah Kiley was a very kind hearted person, she was always there to lend a helping hand, and gave advice when needed. She was out spoken, very strong willed and had a presence that would lighten any room. I worked closely with Sarah for a short time, before she became ill, I have to say I have never met anyone like her. My condolences to her family and friends. It was a great pleasure knowing her.

To the Family of Sarah Kiley

Sarah and I met at Hondros Career Center as we were taking our real estate classes and preparing to take the exam. We spent break times and lunch discussing how we felt we could make a difference in the real estate industry. We have shared conversation by phone over the years as we kept one another up to date on our real estate experiences. I will miss my talks with Sarah, but I know that God said "Well done my good and faithful servant, welcome home!".

May God be with the Sobel and Kiley family during this time of loss.

To Sarah's Family,

I met dear Sarah on line, playing Pogo games. We shared many discussions of children, family and discussed real estate. When I put my home on the market by owner, I asked her advice on my ad and she was most helpful. Sadly, she never mentioned to me she was suffering. I, too, have just been recently diagnosed with liver disease and I would have enjoyed Sarah's sage advice and confidence had I known she was suffering. From reading other guest comments, I know that a wonderful, caring, selfless woman has touched many hearts and souls and will do so eternally. Her graciousness, caring and kindness haunt me daily, though I never met her.

Peace to her family and friends.

Sarah was a wonderful person who touched my life without even knowing it. She helped me when I needed her and never asked or would accept anything in return. I value our friendship and the bond we instantly formed over lunch that day which was the only form of repayment she would accept. Sarah was a kindred spirit and shared with us a short time. She's off to better things now.

PBCers around the World are mourning the loss of Sarah, our dear friend and fellow PBCer. She loved everyone and was always willing to offer her help and support. I remember late at night she would instant message me to see how I was feeling and if she could do anything to help. Here Sarah was so sick herself, but worrying about me. That was the type of loving person she was.

I know Sarah is in Heaven and will continue watching over us, offering her help and support.

Sincere thanks to the Kiley family for sharing Sarah with us, especially during these past four heartbreaking months.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
