Stephen Hayhurst Obituary

HAYHURST Stephen Lynn Hayhurst, born December 3, 1945, son of Charles and Winifred (Riedenbach) Hayhurst, passed away Monday April 18, 2005 at Kobacker House at the age of 59 after a brave and courageous struggle with cancer. Stephen graduated from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA in 1963, attended The Ohio State University and Oklahoma University in Norman, OK. Veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era. Stephen retired after 32 years of service from Anheuser-Busch Co. Avid reader, crossword puzzle extraordinaire and member of Teamsters #284 for 32 years. He loved to golf in Myrtle Beach and enjoyed the fishing trips to Canada. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 34 years as of May 8, 2005, Mary Rae (Mattson) Hayhurst; sons, Christopher Lynn Hayhurst of Columbus and Steven Mattson Hayhurst of New Haven, CT; brother, Charles F. "Fritz" Hayhurst, Jr.; nephews, Charles F. "Rick" Hayhurst, III and Randall Stephen "Randy" (Jenn) Hayhurst; great-nephew, Nathan F. Hayhurst; and several other relatives. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005. Reverend David Griebner officiating. Entombment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Fishburne Military School, 225 South Wayne Avenue, P.O. Box 988, Waynesboro, VA 22980 to HomeReach Hospice (Kobacker House), 3595 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214 or to a charity of your choice in his memory. The Hayhurst Family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Stephen during his illness.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Steve from working with Dr. Behrens. He was always so nice to me. I will miss seeing him and checking him in for his treatments. He had a heart of gold. I will always remember him fondly.
