Sumner Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS Sumner Dent Williams, age 84, of Reynoldsburg, died November 9, 2008 at the Manor at Whitehall. Born April 15, 1924 in Bridgeport, Ohio, son of Dorothy Williams. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Edna; sons, Steve, Kerry (Betsy); daughter, Lisa (Steve); grandchildren, Kelly (Tom), Aaron (Loni), Jason (Lisa), Alix (Micah), Zachary, Stephen, Erik, Kaitlin, Trevor, Jordan and Jacob. During World War II, Dent served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Metcalf (1942-1946), and received many honors. He graduated from Ohio University in 1949 with a B.S. in Journalism. Dent worked as a reporter for the Columbus Citizen newspaper. He retired after many years as Public Relations Manager at Rockwell International (formerly North American Aviation). He was a former member of Kiwanis, National Management Association and Ohio Press Club. He loved reading, gardening, woodworking and a challenging crossword puzzle. He was humble, faithful, unselfish and kind, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the strength and heart of his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008 at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, where funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 5600 East Broad Street. On the U.S.S Metcalf I worked in the same office as Dent. To me he was Willie. I very much respected and admired Willie. I just wish I could have seen him before his demise. My condolences to the family.
