Gildo Pinchetti Obituary

BARRE TOWN - Gildo Aldo Pinchetti, 84, of Wildersburg Common, died Wednesday night, Oct. 21, 2009, at his home, with his family at his bedside.

Born in Barre City, July 4, 1925, he was the son of Eugenio and Madelina (Vernetti) Pinchetti. He attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in the class of 1943. A member of the V-12 Naval Training Program, he attended Middlebury College and Northwestern University.

On May 3, 1945, he was commissioned an ensign and served aboard the USS Saidor in the Asiatic Theatre of Operations as a navigator and gunnery officer, being discharged April 11, 1946.

On Jan. 10, 1948, he married Vilma Bettini in Barre. Following their marriage, they resided in Burlington, Barre City and since 1988 at their present address.

He began his employment with the New England Telephone Co. in 1946 as a technician, retiring after 37 years of service in October of 1983.

Fishing, hunting, gardening and mushrooming were his special interests.

His memberships included the Hedding United Methodist Church of Barre, the Mutuo Inc., Barre American Legion Post #10 and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.

A skilled woodworker, he had made several furniture pieces for family members and enjoyed making ship models in fine detail with two large models in his home.

He and Vilma had visited family many times in Europe, enjoying trips to England, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. After their retirement, they wintered in San Diego, Calif.

Besides his wife, Vilma, in Barre Town, he leaves two sons, Donald Pinchetti and his wife, Catherine, of Great Shelford, United Kingdom, and David Pinchetti and his wife, Kathleen, of San Diego, Calif.; two granddaughters, Juliette Pinchetti Nagreli and Sophie Pinchetti, also of Great Shelford, United Kingdom, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Guerino, Aldo and Irvin Pinchetti; his sister Alma "Lee" Frascoia; and a nephew, Aldo Frascoia.

His service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.

Internment will be made in the Hope Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
