Theodore Ginsberg Obituary

Ginsberg, Theodore "Ted"
1925 - 2018
Theodore "Ted" Ginsberg, 93, passed away October 13, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 4, 1925, in New York City, to parents Joseph and Stella Ginsberg. Ted was a World War II veteran, a lawyer and a loving husband, known for his sharp wit and for his dedication to his wife Audrey, with whom he spent nearly 70 years. After graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, Ted was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 18. He spent the summer of 1943 in Fort Eustis in Virginia, and sustained a non-life-threatening injury during a training exercise, which temporarily put his deployment on hold. In the fall of 1943, Ted embarked on a ship to Europe, and in 1944, his unit landed on Utah Beach five days after the D-Day invasion launched. Ted participated in five major battles of the European Theater: Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. By war's end, he had risen through the ranks to become a staff sergeant. After the war, Ted enrolled in NYU, and then Fordham University School of Law. In Sept. 12, 1948, he married Audrey, the love of his life. They moved to New City, N.Y., in 1959 with their three children: Mark, Hillary and Cindy. Ted worked as a lawyer with a small private practice in New City for many years and then became a bankruptcy law specialist at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in Manhattan. After he retired, he worked as a substitute teacher in Florida. About six years ago, Ted and Audrey moved to Columbus, where Ted served as grand marshal of the Worthington Memorial Day Parade in 2015 and was recently honored for his WWII service at a Columbus Blue Jackets game. Ted loved spending time with his grandchildren, whether relaxing at the beach in Florida where the couple retired, or beating the kids at Monopoly. He is survived by three children: Mark Ginsberg and Elaine Anderson, of Takoma Park, Md., Hillary and Leor Roubein, of Tulsa, Okla., and Cindy and Mahlon Nowland, of Worthington, Ohio; and six grandchildren: Andrew (Jenica), Rob (San), Rachel (Jon), Josh, Kevin, and Amy (Cory). Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16 at Forest Lawn – Temple Israel Section, Taylor Station Rd. entrance. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30 pm at Creekside at the Village, 2200 Welcome Place, Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Wexner Heritage Village, 1151 College Ave., Columbus, Ohio. The family extends a special thanks to Creekside at the Village for providing loving care to both Ted and Audrey for many years. Online guestbook at www.epsteinmemorial.com
