Thomas Miller Obituary
1934 - 2018
Tom Miller, 83, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born Nov. 14, 1934, he and his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Ellen Golden, grew up together in St. Francis of Assisi parish. He graduated from St. Charles High School and Xavier University before attending The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He served as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corp at Walter Reed Medical Center before establishing a general practice for 6 years. He returned for additional training in periodontics, established a specialty practice, and served as part-time faculty at the OSU College of Dentistry for 25 years. He practiced dentistry for 57 years, the last 24 with his son in Worthington, OH. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen, and their children, Susan (Brian) Foley, Molly (Dave) Lickovitch, Dr. TJ (Michele ) Miller, and Amy (Bill) Parchen; grandchildren: Julianne (Erik) Balster, Emily (Dan) Howarth; Miller, Maren and Charlie Parchen, Evan and Katherine Miller, and Jenna Lickovitch; three great-grandchildren, Hendrix and Ava Balster, and Marielle Howarth; sister Dr. Virginia Whitmire; sisters and brothers-in-law Jim (Patty) Golden, Joanne Cavendish, Frank (Donna) Golden, Nancy (Bill) Demidovich, and Judy Moore; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Sally Miller, his parents-in-law Jim and Catherine Golden, grandson Jonathan Lickovitch, his sister Nancy Shirk, brothers-in-law Les Whitmire, Jack Cavendish, and Tom Moore.Tom was a generous, kind, loving, and gentle man who never knew a stranger. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle and an avid OSU sports fan and active member of the Flytown Club. He also was a member and past President of the Columbus Dental Society, Ohio Dental Association, American Dental Association, Columbus Academy of Periodontists, Ohio Academy of Periodontology, and American Academy of Periodontology, International College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy. Calling hours will be at Rutherford Funeral Home in Powell, Ohio on Monday, May 14th 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Powell, OH on Tuesday, May 15th at 10:30 a.m. Private burial will be held at a later date. It is with great sadness that I heard of Dr. Miller's passing. I was his patient for many years and I can't imagine this world without him. I was always comforted by his calm and gentle way. My heart goes out to his family, especially Susan and TJ who are such an integral part of his wonderful practice.

Thomas J. Miller leaves a large void in the hearts of his family I am sure, But also in those that considered him a dear and precious friend. Our relationship extends back to the first days of his practice. Since then he has grown to be a positive and dear friend never to be forgotten. He excelled in so many ways that he will be difficult to even be rivaled. He leaves a memory with us that will not soon or ever be lost.

Dr. Tom Miller was proud of St. Charles and the sentiment was mutual. I was privileged to know this fine Carolian when I worked at our alma mater and he attended his class reunions. He was Distinguished in every way.
