Tye Downard Obituary

Downard Tye L. Downard, 43, of Westerville passed away February 22, 2016. Tye dedicated his life to the City of Reynoldsburg as a police officer and detective and was a Raider through and through, but his commitment to being a loving father was unsurpassed. He always put his boys first. There are too many words to describe Tye, but for those who knew him, they would say he is the most loyal and dedicated friend to all. He will always be remembered as an amazing man, hard worker, rock and roller and best father to his boys. We will miss his smile, useless knowledge, and love of music. Tye is preceded in death by father Terry Downard, grandparents Paul and Ferne Ruzicska and Jack and Wanda Morgan and brother and sister in law. Tye is survived by his wife and sons. Mother, Robin (Dwight); brother, Trey; nieces, Madison and Paige; uncles, Steve (Marlene), Doug (Julie); many more cousins aunts, uncles. Tye also leaves behind a brotherhood of lifelong friends and law enforcement family - too many to list but you know who you are. His family will receive friends Friday, February 26 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg. His funeral service will be Saturday, February 27 at 11 a.m., at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Road, Westerville, Ohio, with burial following at Blendon Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made towards the boys future education. Information will be available through Cotner Funeral Home. Messages may be sent to his family by visiting www.cotnerfuneralhome.com. He is number 10 in the program but will always number one in our hearts. His final words would be: Go Raiders.

I look forward to seeing you again in the kingdom of heaven. Rest in peace my friend.

I worked with Tye in the RPD Detective Bureau for many, many years. I watched his hair get slowly longer over the years from the police academy until now. Lol. He was the most respected guy. He told me he had always wanted to, not only be a police officer, but be a Reynoldsburg Police Officer. He was a Raider through and through. I am heartbroken for his family, friends, and his law enforcement family. I will remember his smile, laugh, jokes, rocking, and singing to me every time he saw me. No one can compare to the positivity he exuded. You are forever in my heart Detective Tye Downard, #98, mostly as a friend, but definitely as one of the best human beings I've ever known. So Sorry Downard Family, I'm praying for you all.

Deepest Sympathy to the Downard family. My mother and I knew Tye back when he was in elementary school at Herbert H. Mills. My mother Nancy Wilson was the librarian there for over 30 years total. I was 8 years older then Tye but knew a lot of the young people that went to Mills. Tye was and still is a great guy. He will be missed.

My dearest longest friend may you rest in peace. I have so many memories to treasure from our 35 year friendship. I was the new kid at Herbert Mills elementary 3rd grade, I broke my foot & got glasses the week I started lol Tye was the first kid to talk to me & help me. We became fast friends, the pool & riding bikes all over. We kept in touch even when I moved away in 9th grade. Tye stayed close to my whole family. I remember Robin so fondly she was funny, loud and silly and had she most adoration and love for her sons. They were her life & breathe and my heart breaks for her. I recently saw Tye in Nov he just gloated and bragged about is his sons and wife. He beamed with pride and love...and that is how I will always remember him. Until we meet again my friend.. I will always think of you & laugh when I hear Barry Manilow

My heart is breaking foir the Downard family. I have known Tye since he was in elementary school with my daughter. He spent a lot of time at our house. He was one of the sweetest and most respectful kids I had the pleasure of knowing. My daughter called him her "big brother" and could always confide in him. He was a dear friend to her and like one if our own

I was Tye's junior high guidance counselor and remember him sharing with me a drawing he made in first or second grade when they were told to draw a picture of what they wanted to be when they grew up. Tye drew a policeman! He was one of my favorite students ever and I will always remember him with fondness. My blessings to his family.

My heart is broken over the passing of Tye. I met Tye while working in the Duty Room. The first day that I met him he was among one of my favorite officers. Rachel and I referred to him as Riggins. You will truly be missed and I will always keep the black pen that you used whenever you came into the office. My heartfelt prayers go out to all of his family and friends.
