Victoria Dixon

Dixon Sister Victoria Dixon, OSF, the former Sister Marie Therese Dixon, was born in Summit Station, Ohio, on July 22, 1934, and died on June 18, 2015, at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, New York. She was the daughter of the late William and Victoria (Youngman) Dixon. Sister Victoria entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1952, following graduation from Sacred Heart School of Business in Columbus, Ohio. She made her profession of vows at Stella Niagara on August 18, 1955. She received a BA degree in Mathematics from Rosary Hill College (Daemen) and an MA in Mathematics from the University of Detroit. She also earned an MS in Computer Science and a PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York. Sister Victoria began her teaching career at the Seminary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at Stella Niagara in 1955. She also taught at Sacred Heart Academy, Rosary Hill College (Daemen) and Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and St. Francis de Sales High School in Columbus, Ohio. In 1984, Sister Victoria was diagnosed as having MS. She retired to the Stella Niagara Health Center in 1987. During this time, she tutored students and worked with the refugees who awaited entrance into Canada. Sister is survived by her brother, Robert (Mary) Dixon; sisters, Rita Brooks, Betty Herb, Florine Clark, Rose (Doug) Lingel, Virginia (Duane) Dailey; special friend, Joanne Statt; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by brothers Joseph and William Dixon and a sister Mary McAnaney. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, 4421 Lower River Rd., Stella Niagara, New York 14144. Interment in Stella Niagara Cemetery.
