Violet Jane Dennis

DENNIS Violet Jane Dennis (nee Whitlock), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Riverside Hospital at the age of 91. She was born on April 11, 1921 in Fairpoint, Ohio to the late Leonard F. and Margaret E. (Edwards) Whitlock; also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Samuel Y. Dennis, Jr. in 2006, brothers Leonard and John Whitlock and sister Patricia Swanson. She is survived by her children, Dr. Samuel Y. Dennis III of Columbus, John L. Dennis of Bellingham, WA and Marianne (John) Bedell of Upper Arlington; grandchildren, Dr. Laura (James) Garish of Upper Arlington, Matthew Bedell (Dr. Gerardine Botte) of Athens, Ashley Bedell (Brooke Livingston) of San Francisco, CA, Shawn Dennis, Sherry Dennis, Samuel Dennis of Bellingham, WA; great-grandchildren, Lily, Ellyse and Grace Garish, Geri and Andrea Bedell; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Violet was a 1939 graduate of Martins Ferry High School, Martins Ferry, OH. She was a devoted faithful member of Bethel International United Methodist Church (Pillar Class, Mary Magdalene Circle and a former Chairman of the Women's Sonshine Committee). She was also a long-time active member of Nationwide Children Hospital's TWIG #85 auxiliary. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Bethel International United Methodist Church, 1220 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH 43220 with a reception to follow. Pastor Mike Pratt, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Bethel International United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Violet Jane Dennis.
