Vivian Bernice DeVoss

DeVOSS Vivian Bernice (Kuhlwein) DeVoss, Newark. A funeral service for Vivian B. DeVoss will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at BRUCKER-KISHLER FUNERAL HOME, 985 North 21st Street, Newark, with Rev. Jeff Smith presiding. Internment will follow at Fernwood Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. DeVoss, age 98, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. She was born August 7, 1911, in Franklin County, Ohio to her late parents Willard and Martha (Rhyan) Sawyer. She graduated from Hamilton Township High School and lived most of her life in Pickaway County. Vivian was a 62 year member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lockbourne where she organized a youth choir, served as assistant organist and was a member of the choir and the Ladies Society. After moving to Newark, she became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was employed by the State of Ohio, Department of Transportation for 21 years retiring in 1973. Vivian enjoyed writing articles for The Pickaway County News, Ashville, Ohio and later had numerous articles published in The Advocate, Newark. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Vivian is survived by her sons, Willard "Bill" (Joan K.) Kuhlwein of Newark and Robert E. (Margherta Lemon) Kuhlwein of Romulus, Michigan; eight grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husbands Ray E. Kuhlwein and Charles W. DeVoss, brother Atlee Sawyer and sister Mildred Roller.
