Walter Harvey Obituary

Harvey Dr. Walter R. Harvey, age 95, of Columbus, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015. He was born June 19, 1919 in Tucumcari, NM to the late Clarence "Badger" and Nora Harvey. He completed his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and his graduate degrees from Iowa State University and was a distinguished alumni from both. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII. Dr. Harvey was a Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University in Animal Science. He authored the book "Least Square Analysis of Data" for which he received the Morrison Award. He also served terms as Editor in Chief for the Journal of Animal Science, consulted with the Food & Drug Administration and worked for the USDA for a time. He was an elder and active member of Fishinger & Kenny Roads Church of Christ. Dr. Harvey was very active, still driving himself to the golf course until recently. He enjoyed bowling, camping, water-skiing and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Most of all, he enjoyed getting together with his immediate and extended family who meant so much to him. Walter's family would like to thank the staff at the Forum of Knightsbridge for the exceptional care and concern for him over the past 10 months. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marie Harvey, great-grandson Brayden, and siblings James Harvey, Alma Pyron and Nelda Lacy. Walter will be missed by his loving children, Bob (Janie) Harvey, Jerry (Sandy) Harvey and Donna (Roger) Williams; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kelly) Hall, Robert Harvey, Jr., Suzy (Ben) Long, Elizabeth (Mike) Brookover, Joshua and Jeremy Harvey, Brian (Hannah) Williams and Kimberly (Kyle) Moore; and great-grandchildren, Bentina, Taj, Darrian, Noah, Max, Libby, Lexie, Kayla, Caleb, Jacob, Ethan and Jackson. Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Fishinger & Kenny Roads Church of Christ, 1130 Fishinger Rd., Greg Tidwell and Gene Carrell, officiating. Visitation will be begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment Kingwood Memorial Park.
