William Weiss Obituary

Weiss William "Bill" Weiss, 81, of Columbus, passed away January 5, 2017. Bill was born on March 7, 1935, in Columbus, the son of Peter and Goldie (Valentine) Weiss. He graduated from South High School in 1953 and began working at the Huntington National Bank. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954 and married his Huntington Bank co-worker, Louise Burgner, in 1955. Bill attended Ohio State following two years in the Navy, and then worked his way up the ladder at the Huntington to become Vice President, heading their first Data Processing organization. Later in his career he worked as Division Chief for the City of Columbus in charge of Data Processing and then President of Consolidated Computer Company in Newark, Ohio. He was also the President of the Data Processing Management Association (Columbus Chapter) for several years. As a lifelong Ohio State Buckeye fan, Bill served as a volunteer statistician for the OSU football and basketball teams for 30 years and was a lifetime member of the Agonis Club and Buckeye Boosters. In addition to being an avid sports fan, he loved to play cards, talk politics, show off his gift of trivia, and brag about his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise; their five children - daughters, Pam (Paul) Albrecht, Paula (Mark) Harrington, and Penny (Brian) Allender; sons, William Weiss, Jr. and Robert (Ann) Weiss; and 15 grandchildren, Adam, Alison, Andrea, Luke, Dylan, Amanda, Brittany, Amelia, James, Dustin, Julia, Austin, Alexa, Ruby and Christian. Deepest sympathies to the entire family. Bill was a great guy and always an interesting man to engage with in conversation concerning many topics, in particular Ohio State athletics or politics. His opinions and observations were always insightful and thought-provoking, even if his views were not your own views. He will be missed by his friends but it is comforting to know he was cared for and surrounded by a wonderful and loving family.
