Dinah Stokes Obituary

PONTOTOC – Dinah Jean Stokes, 77, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at her home. She was born June 21, 1936, to the Rev. Lanzo and Florence Abbot in Hamilton, Ala. She attended school in Lambert and graduated in 1954. She married Melvin ""Bud"" Stokes on April 14, 1956. They made their home in Pontotoc and raised two children. She was an active member of Westside Pontotoc Church of God of Prophecy for 50 years, where she served as treasury clerk for 40-plus years. She retired from Henderson Insurance Agency after 30 years. In retirement, she enjoyed sewing, reading, working in her rose garden and cooking for her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother who enjoyed her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 19, at Westside Pontotoc Church of God of Prophecy. Bro. Sherman Adams and Bro. James Gray will be officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin ""Bud"" Stokes; two sons, Gary Stokes (Lorrie) and Randy Stokes; grandchildren, Nichole Carter (Lee), Michelle Pettit (Chris), Robert Stokes (Michele), Michael Bramlitt (April) and Josh Bramlitt (Tiffany); 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Mae Shinall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Frances Mitchell, Esther McGee and Ruth Boles.
Pallbearers will be Chris Pettit, Lee Carter, Afton Watts, Dewayne Cockrum and Robert Stokes.
Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the church.
