Donald Gary Steed

1936 - 2023

Donald Gary Steed, 86, passed away on May 26, 2023, at his residence in Smithville, MS. He was born in Smithville, MS in 1936 to the late Grady W. and Mae Sullivan Steed.

He attended Amory City Schools graduating with the class of 1954. Donald served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1954 until 1958 as a steelworker 2nd class. He married Nancy Stiles in 1960. Donald worked for Shumpert Truck lines and Roadway Express as a member of Teamster Local 667 for 37 years retiring in 1995.

Donald was a Mason in Amory Masonic Lodge and Hamasa Temple Shrine. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 and a life member of the NRA and supporter of the second amendment. Donald was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Amory. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much time gardening, fishing, and hunting, especially quail hunting and owning and running bird dogs.

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Grubbs, Amory; nieces, Heather Nestor (John), Amory, Heidi Nelson (Tim), Amory; great nieces and nephews, Savannah, Luke, Whit and Caroline; and host of other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Stiles Steed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow with Masonic Rites at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory, MS. Pallbearers will be Luke Nelson, Whit Nestor, Bob Chisholm, Lyman Chisholm, John Callihan, Jimmy Forbus, Charles Marshall and Frank Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Parham, Danny Ray Sullivan, Bert Mize, John Ross Comer and Teddy Faulkner.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday evening from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home in Amory. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Memories and condolences may be shared with his family at EEPicklefuneralHome.com
