Mary Hazel Green Norris, age 93, died at Sunshine Health Care, Pontotoc, MS on September 11, 2016 when her body finally gave up the good fight and she moved on to be with her Lord and Savior.
Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years James Hoyle Norris, mother Burta Curbo Green, father Joe Thomas Andrew Green, step-mother Freddie Aldridge Green, brothers Charles W. Green, Cecil Q. Greene, Otis (Bo) Kimery, Louis (Boots) Kimery, sisters Ruby Green, Pauline Green, Ruth Green Bennett, brother-in-laws James Bennett, Paul Cole, Johnny Garrett, sister-in law Eleanor Kimery, her best friend, much loved sister-in-law, sister-in-love Evelyn Greene Woode.
Surviving in her daughter, LaNetter (Jimmy) Bennett, Saltillo, granddaughter, LaTonia (Jack) Clemons and great-grandson, Will Clemons, Guntersville, AL; Grandson, James "Jay" (Christy) Westmoreland, great-granddaughter, Harlee Westmoreland and great-grandson, Colton Westmoreland, Madison, AL; Sisters Bernice Green Cole, Humboldt, TN, JoAnn Green Garrett, Paragould, AR, brother Hugh (Mittie) Green, Southaven, MS along with an abundance of loving nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.
Special nurses who cared for Hazel her last years and days are Misty Haire, Magnolia Manor, Tupelo, Donna Waters of Sunshine Health Care, Pontotoc, Halcyon Hospice director Craig Horrocks and hospice nurse Brandy.
Born October 14, 1922, Hazel lived her entire life in Lee County, MS, primarily in Saltillo, where she was co-named Citizen of the Year in 2001. She was known for cooking and taking food to the sick and elderly or just to give someone a pick-me-up. Hazel was always a helping hand when one was needed. In addition to working outside the home at Playcraft Industries for over 22 years, then several more years at Mississippi Samples, Inc., she still managed to participate in community activities. She was always a voting precinct worker at election time, active in the area chapter of the DAV, serving as pastoral assistant. She was elected and served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star local lodge where she was a member. She was the oldest living member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Saltillo, having been a member for 78 years.
Pallbearers will be Jay Westmoreland, Donny Greene, Patrick Greene, Hoyt Norris, Lerland Kindt, and Gary McKissick. Honorary Pallbearers are Hugh Green, Ray Ford and her special caregivers Alecia (Lisa), April, Rachel, Dianna, Hannah, Roxanne and Jackie. Arrangements are being handled by Waters Funeral Home, Baldwyn, MS. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday with funeral service beginning at 1:00 P.M.
