Janice Ledbetter

1949 - 2023

Janice Mae Ledbetter, 74, passed away June 13, 2023, at NMMC, after a brief illness. She was born February 22, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Herman C. Ledbetter and Eunice Eudell Huffstickler Ledbetter. Her family moved to Myrtle, where she started school in the first grade, and graduated from Myrtle Attendance Center in 1967. She attended Northeast Junior College, and graduated from Ole Miss, with a degree in Library Science. She completed her Masters Degree, and started teaching in Saltillo, and later was the Librarian at Myrtle School, until her retirement in 2001 at the age of 52. She influenced so many lives of the kids that she taught in her years at Myrtle. She was a faithful member of Myrtle Baptist Church and Camp Zion, where she attended until her death. She was loved by so many people over the many years in her career and her church. She was a very kind, giving, selfless person who thought of others instead of herself.

Visitation will be Friday, June 16, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm at United Funeral Service in New Albany, MS, and the funeral will be Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Myrtle Baptist Church in Myrtle, MS. . The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include two nephews, Hugh S. Morman Jr. of Myrtle, and David H. Morman (Linda) of Blue Springs; great nephews Clay Morman of Myrtle, and Christopher Morman of Myrtle, great niece Amanda Alexander (Jacob), Ashley Morman of Myrtle, great-great nephews Blake and Mason Morman of Myrtle, one brother, L. D. Ledbetter of Southaven, MS; and one sister, Teresa Wise (Billy) of Blue Springs, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Eudell Ledbetter, one brother, Dwight "Satch" Ledbetter of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and one sister, Norma Morman of Myrtle, MS.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Myrtle Baptist Church. Rev. Earl J. Farley and Rev. Linney Finney will officiate. Burial will be in Old Glenfield Cemetery in New Albany, MS. Pallbearers will be Allen Gregory, Carl Hudson, Wayne Logan, Bruce Zulauf, Ray Smith, and John Clark.
