John Wilson Obituary

John Aldrich Wilson, Sr., 88, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at his home. He was born January 10, 1936, in Itawamba County to James Gordy and Audra Eva Dell Ledbetter Wilson. He worked as a County Agent for the MSU Itawamba County Extension Service before retiring in 2001. He was a member and deacon of Providence Baptist Church and was caretaker of Providence Cemetery for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. John was an avid gardener until he wasn't able, but he still bossed everyone else around to make sure they were doing things to his liking. He enjoyed football, especially Mississippi State and Ole Miss, and riding his side-by-side on the several trails he made. He was also a bee keeper who loved giving away the honey. Most of all, he was a family man who loved spending his time with them and watching the grandchildren play in the yard.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jeff Lentz and Bro. Paul Stupka officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sandra Grissom Wilson; and his three daughters, Tammy Holland (James), Terri Brown (Nick), and Candy Robinson (Michael), all of Tremont; one brother, Lanny Wilson (Becky) of Tupelo; three sisters, Janice Shepherd (Mike) of Bartlett, TN, Shirley Whitfield of Red Bay, AL, and Judy Rogers of Tremont; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by one son, John A. Wilson, Jr.; his parents, Gordy and Eva Dell Wilson; three brothers, James Robert Wilson, Gerald Wilson, and Ross Wilson; and three sisters, Helen Stone, Jackie Lucas, and Brenda Wilson.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Steven Holland, Tyler Delancey, CJ Thompson, Chase Westmoreland, Blain Evans, Zack Ramey, and Cody Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters: Lizabeth Holland, Lezlie Thompson, Lindzey Holland, Jamie Westmoreland, Krista Evans, Haley Ramey, and Hannah Robinson; and grandson, Peyton Robinson.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.

I wish that my grandchildren could sit with me and listen to John tell some stories. I loved to tell him stories too because there wasn't a greater feeling than making him laugh with you.

A man loved by family and friends. And deserved it. He will be majorly missed. Thank you John for showing there are still good men of God . I love you and the family. See you and Roger soon! Fine examples of what we should be.
