Robert Maxwell "Max" Sheffield, 14, died tragically on Dec. 19, 2022 as the result of an automobile/train collision. Born in Tupelo on March 27, 2008 to Robert "Ted" Sheffield and Sharon Cooper Sheffield, Max was a 9th grader at New Albany High School where he was an honor roll student, a standout athlete and a leader among his peers. His warm, inviting personality endeared him to fellow students and teachers alike and he was the perfect exemplification of the Bulldog school spirit. His test scores in Math and Algebra were in the highest range for State testing with perfect scores and he ranked in the top 15 % nationally on the PSAT test. While in 7th grade, he served as a student government leader and was in the gifted program. Big, strong and athletic, Max played football, soccer and baseball. A letterman in football, he played linebacker and was the punter. In soccer, he was an awesome goalie and letterman. Max enjoyed being a member of the Tupelo Futbol Club Soccer team. Max was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo. His all too short purpose filled life will always be an example for others to emulate.
