Max Sheffield Obituary

Robert Maxwell "Max" Sheffield, 14, died tragically on Dec. 19, 2022 as the result of an automobile/train collision. Born in Tupelo on March 27, 2008 to Robert "Ted" Sheffield and Sharon Cooper Sheffield, Max was a 9th grader at New Albany High School where he was an honor roll student, a standout athlete and a leader among his peers. His warm, inviting personality endeared him to fellow students and teachers alike and he was the perfect exemplification of the Bulldog school spirit. His test scores in Math and Algebra were in the highest range for State testing with perfect scores and he ranked in the top 15 % nationally on the PSAT test. While in 7th grade, he served as a student government leader and was in the gifted program. Big, strong and athletic, Max played football, soccer and baseball. A letterman in football, he played linebacker and was the punter. In soccer, he was an awesome goalie and letterman. Max enjoyed being a member of the Tupelo Futbol Club Soccer team. Max was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo. His all too short purpose filled life will always be an example for others to emulate.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Shelton Hall at St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo with Father Tim Murphy and Father Henry Shelton as celebrants. Private Family Burial will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery in Saltillo. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time at 11. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends.

Max is survived by his sister, Elizabeth "Liz" Sheffield (age 7); his grandparents, John and Sherry Fowler of Nettleton; his Aunt, Sherry Sheffield Davis (Mike Armour) and Uncles, John Hoyt Sheffield ( Lisa) of Auburn, Andy Sheffield of Saltillo, Scott Cooper(Jennifer) and John Curtis Brooks and their families; his step grandmother Bobbie Sheffield of Plantersville, his schoolmates at New Albany High and a host of other friends and relatives.

Pall bearers are Bob Sheffield, Ben Davis, Clarence Foster, Peyton Johnson, Jacob Alexander and Austin Baker. Honorary pall bearers are cousin, Seth Sheffield and members of Max's New Albany High School soccer team and Tupelo Futbol Club, who are honored to serve as honorary pallbearers for their beloved teammate.

Memorials may be made to the Liz Sheffield Educational Fund, c/o St. James Catholic Church, P. O. Box 734, Tupelo, MS. 38802.
